I feel sorry for my little boy :(
He has this fundraising thing to do for school... I can't walk him around the neighbourhood to sell them because of my doctor's orders, and jact is laid up for a while with the remainders of a root canal gone wrong. I would buy all the damn things myself, but if I do that, jact will be going to get 20 more root canals in the next month (and I HATE chocolate). Anyone have any ideas on how to offload this stuff? The poor kid feels so bad because he was lookin forward to going out and selling them (they talked it up at school) and they have some dumb competition to sell the most.. I don't know what to do. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm at a loss of what to tell him..

We'll buy some LadyM.
Hit me up on ICQ. |
what do u got? sell it here, and donate it to someone who needs a grip of candy?
|
I should mention, the rest of the family is out of the question because they're all diabetics.
|
That's cool guys.. I was thinking maybe I should set up a little stand in front of the house too.. like a lemonaide stand... he might like that..

When my kids have things to sell for school I send them to work with my sister and she pimps them in her staff room. She comes back with an empty box and a big bag of money for my kids' school ;)
Do your kids have a grandma or auntie who can help out? |
Couldn't he go round himself? Or is the neoghbourhood not that safe? Or is the kid to young to do that sort of thing by himself?
|
That's a good idea. Does your street get much foot traffic tho? It may be frustrating for him if he sits out there for hours watching cars drive past.
|
Give family members, friends ect copies of the catalogue or whatever to take to work with them. Always worked for me when I was in grade school. My grandmother took it to the office and I sold sickly amounts of the stuff.

Hehehe, this reminds me so much of a Friend's episode where this happened... :)
A boy broke his leg and couldn't sell the cookies. Ross ended up having to buy a shitload... |
sell the whole load on Ebay with a 10% markup.
Be sure to add that all the candy might be possessed by satan and I'm sure you could walk away with a new Ferrari after the auction is done. |

Hey LadyMischief ,
Most of the fundraisers these days have websites so you can sell to friends and family out of town. I bet if you look at your info there is one. You should investigate. :) |

A very very clever sign for stand.......
The rest of the family can step up and take him around the neighborhood. Part of the experience is the adventure of feeling like you have purpose like going to work...I am a big person today because i am going to work to sell my candy bars....have another family member hit up five or ten houses maybe an hour at the store entrance....a stand in the yard....by that time he will be over it |

my 6 year old would have snuck them in his room.. ate them all, and i would have gotten a call from the school saying he owed a shit load of money..that or he would have sold them and kept the money and spent it at the store... cant trust that one to do any fundraising anytime soon.. :1orglaugh |

My cheerleading squad has to do this almost year round to raise money for competitions, etc. One of the easiest ways we've found so far is to find some kind of work place where there are a lot of men- like a factory or plant- anything that has men coming in and out on "shifts". Get there during the shift change when one group is coming out and one is coming in, and you can sell the hell out of anything edible. Candy bars and boxes of donuts by the dozen, do the best. But they'll pretty much buy anything they can eat. Stand near the entrance or wherever they all have to pass. We wear uniforms so they recognize it's some kind of fundraiser, but you could make a little sign telling what the charity is and let it hang off the front of his box. You or whoever takes him can sort of sit (if it's you, bring a chair since you can't be on your feet) or stand nearby to help with any money/change deals, but let him stand there with his little box as they pass. Even if they don't want the candy, they'll usually give some money.
Sometimes people will even go ahead and buy the whole box from us and then take it inside and sell it for us to get their money back. We can usually sell-out in half an hour, no matter how many boxes we bring. And sometimes it's hundreds. :Graucho |

Oh and thanks LOADS to those who helped out so far.. It sure gives Jay a head start. :) Many many thanks.

don't forget to tell him to tack on an extra buck to the price for himself.
never too young to learn that working for the man is for chumps. |
LadyM -
I don't know what your mobility is right now, but can you drive a car? I know the kids around here sell that stuff in front of the grocery store all the time. Call and find out if they'll let you set up a stand for him there on Saturday or something. |

LadyM,
Depending on how busy your doctor's office is (or the building) bring him along at your next appointment and sell them off in the waiting room or at the front door, while you sit by and watch. |
na na i got some candy! :thumbsup
|
Hey babe, we'll buy some from him. Hit me up on ICQ...love to help your boy:-)
