I feel sorry for my little boy :(

He has this fundraising thing to do for school... I can't walk him around the neighbourhood to sell them because of my doctor's orders, and jact is laid up for a while with the remainders of a root canal gone wrong. I would buy all the damn things myself, but if I do that, jact will be going to get 20 more root canals in the next month (and I HATE chocolate). Anyone have any ideas on how to offload this stuff? The poor kid feels so bad because he was lookin forward to going out and selling them (they talked it up at school) and they have some dumb competition to sell the most.. I don't know what to do. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm at a loss of what to tell him..

Adult Site Traffic 10-10-2003 02:25 PM

We'll buy some LadyM.

Hit me up on ICQ.

brand0n 10-10-2003 02:26 PM

what do u got? sell it here, and donate it to someone who needs a grip of candy?

LadyMischief 10-10-2003 02:26 PM

I should mention, the rest of the family is out of the question because they're all diabetics.

LadyMischief 10-10-2003 02:27 PM

That's cool guys.. I was thinking maybe I should set up a little stand in front of the house too.. like a lemonaide stand... he might like that..

They're Hershey's cookie bars or something.. I dunno, like I said I hate chocolate.. so I don't pay much attention

Kassidy 10-10-2003 02:29 PM

When my kids have things to sell for school I send them to work with my sister and she pimps them in her staff room. She comes back with an empty box and a big bag of money for my kids' school ;)

Do your kids have a grandma or auntie who can help out?

Ross 10-10-2003 02:29 PM

Couldn't he go round himself? Or is the neoghbourhood not that safe? Or is the kid to young to do that sort of thing by himself?

Trev 10-10-2003 02:30 PM

That's a good idea. Does your street get much foot traffic tho? It may be frustrating for him if he sits out there for hours watching cars drive past.

freeadultcontent 10-10-2003 02:30 PM

Give family members, friends ect copies of the catalogue or whatever to take to work with them. Always worked for me when I was in grade school. My grandmother took it to the office and I sold sickly amounts of the stuff.

He's only just turned 5 I don't think he's that confident.. and besides he wouldn't know if they were giving him the right money :)

It's just not safe to let your kids out of your sight anymore, unfortunately. There are pervs everywhere :(

Yeah it's a main street in town so it gets a fair amount.. As long as the weather holds he can sell some that way.. I'll be glad to sell to those who want it, but I want the poor kid to feel involved to he's so hyped about it.. The REAL kick in the ass was I said NO to fundraising because I KNEW I couldn't walk around, but I can't just say no to him now they got him all worked up about it.

buddyjuf 10-10-2003 02:33 PM

Im sure many ppl on GFY would be glad to help LadyM, including myself! :)

Well even if he sells a couple I'd be happy.. And I'll go out of my way to make sure he sells some himself, instead of me just doing all the work for him :) Pride of accomplishment of course.. But I definitely appreciate the offers and will be glad to hook you up.. my icq is 3522039.

I don't think there are any "safe streets" anymore so i don't suggest a 5 yo cute little boy on the street by himself :(

Scott McD 10-10-2003 02:36 PM

Hehehe, this reminds me so much of a Friend's episode where this happened... :)

A boy broke his leg and couldn't sell the cookies.

Ross ended up having to buy a shitload...

Shok 10-10-2003 02:37 PM

sell the whole load on Ebay with a 10% markup.

Be sure to add that all the candy might be possessed by satan and I'm sure you could walk away with a new Ferrari after the auction is done.

What REALLY sucks is our neighbors on BOTH SIDES of us moved out last week, so we can't even hit THEM up anymore! :feels-hot

TiGrrPrr 10-10-2003 02:41 PM

Buy them all, then give em out for halloween.

hahah it's for some stupid charity so keeping it wouldn't be an option, I don't think.

Shok 10-10-2003 02:42 PM

keep the markup

brizzad 10-10-2003 02:45 PM

LaurieX 10-10-2003 02:50 PM

Hey LadyMischief ,

Most of the fundraisers these days have websites so you can sell to friends and family out of town. I bet if you look at your info there is one. You should investigate. :)

A very very clever sign for stand.......

The rest of the family can step up and take him around the neighborhood.

Part of the experience is the adventure of feeling like you have purpose like going to work...I am a big person today because i am going to work to sell my candy bars....have another family member hit up five or ten houses maybe an hour at the store entrance....a stand in the yard....by that time he will be over it

my thoughts too..

my 6 year old would have snuck them in his room.. ate them all, and i would have gotten a call from the school saying he owed a shit load of money..that or he would have sold them and kept the money and spent it at the store... cant trust that one to do any fundraising anytime soon.. :1orglaugh

She's got her hands full with her mother.. She can't even go to the bathroom on her own..and she can't get much time away.. I had thought of that but she just can't do it :(

Yeah I definitely plan on having him out there selling em.. He's SO hyped up about it.. That's why I felt so damn bad when he came home so excited about it.. But now that I think about it, it would be a good experience for him. And with all the awesome people on GFY, he might even win a prize, which would make me feel really really good :)

LadyMischief 10-10-2003 03:15 PM

Hehe he's SO excited he's already making plans about his chocolate stand... I'll have to take pictures :)

grogan 10-10-2003 03:17 PM

pssh, top prize in those contests is like a teddy bear.

teach him html and throw the candy in the garbage :2 cents:

Lol he already knows how to type and whatnot.. Even if he doesn't win a prize it's nice for him to feel a sense of accomplishment, which is important. I just sure appreciate every one else helping along the way. He's a nice kid, and a smart kid. He is having a hard time adjusting to mommy not being able to go on hikes through the woods and to the park 2 or 3 times a day. I'm glad we all figured out a creative solution and he is gonna feel really good about it too :)

Holly 10-10-2003 03:37 PM

My cheerleading squad has to do this almost year round to raise money for competitions, etc. One of the easiest ways we've found so far is to find some kind of work place where there are a lot of men- like a factory or plant- anything that has men coming in and out on "shifts". Get there during the shift change when one group is coming out and one is coming in, and you can sell the hell out of anything edible. Candy bars and boxes of donuts by the dozen, do the best. But they'll pretty much buy anything they can eat. Stand near the entrance or wherever they all have to pass. We wear uniforms so they recognize it's some kind of fundraiser, but you could make a little sign telling what the charity is and let it hang off the front of his box. You or whoever takes him can sort of sit (if it's you, bring a chair since you can't be on your feet) or stand nearby to help with any money/change deals, but let him stand there with his little box as they pass. Even if they don't want the candy, they'll usually give some money.

Sometimes people will even go ahead and buy the whole box from us and then take it inside and sell it for us to get their money back. We can usually sell-out in half an hour, no matter how many boxes we bring. And sometimes it's hundreds. :Graucho

Well we're in a small town and there really isn't anyplace like that here, but I think he should do ok out on the street too.. we get a lot of foottraffic going by, the high school is a block away so hopefully the little wretches will contribute to something good instead of just littering up my back woods :P

LadyMischief 10-10-2003 03:43 PM

Oh and thanks LOADS to those who helped out so far.. It sure gives Jay a head start. :) Many many thanks.

grogan 10-10-2003 03:48 PM

don't forget to tell him to tack on an extra buck to the price for himself.

never too young to learn that working for the man is for chumps.

LadyM -

I don't know what your mobility is right now, but can you drive a car? I know the kids around here sell that stuff in front of the grocery store all the time. Call and find out if they'll let you set up a stand for him there on Saturday or something.

No I don't.. and I have low mobility because of pregnancy problems.. A walk to the corner store (4 doors away) can induce bleeding etc.. But that is a good idea, thank you!

LadyM,
Depending on how busy your doctor's office is (or the building) bring him along at your next appointment and sell them off in the waiting room or at the front door, while you sit by and watch.

brand0n 10-10-2003 07:10 PM

Neriah Davis 10-10-2003 07:22 PM
