Smart people please tell me what computer to buy
I'm going to pick up a new box for myself today, what should I get? I can't really get a Mac, although Windows has made me want one, because a couple of the specific programs I have to use to run my company are not available for it. So, that being said, what brand should I go with? What kind of specs should I be looking for? What's the best store to go to in Canada? In the past I've had a tech build me my computers, but I've moved away from my tech's so I'm on my own. Please keep in mind that I'm an old man now who's let himself get out of the loop when it comes to hardware.
And what's the most kickass monitor available now? I can't believe mine still has 3 dimensions. I mean what is this, 1999? Any help will be much appreciated. :) |
you need it for work or to play poker?

get a dell. it's way cheaper than building it yourself:
DellHome - Dimension 2400 Desktop with 2.2.2Ghz Pentium 4 Processor, 15" LCD, Altec Lansing ADA215, 40GB HD, CD-Rom for $474 after Rebate plus Shipping and no tax. |

YOu want a good comp.. do this..
Go to a small company store.. some namless little shop. walk in say what you want the comp to do and you will fork up 3k for him to make it.. pick the parts you want in it. The ones you buy at future shop and shit are made off an assebly line and a good % are fucked when you get em. I find the small guy give better service hands down and if you need something fixed you dont have to send you pc to the pc fuckup doctor in but fuck nowhere GL :2 cents: :thumbsup |

AMD Barton 2500+ (runs as fast as 2.5ghz)
ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe (so you dont have to buy a soundcard, a lan card, extra usb slots, firewire, etc...) Any Brand 512mb ram (Im guessing its enough) Any Brand Geforce4 4200 (best bang for the buck) a good 48X Cd-Rw and/or Dvd-rom Im guessing 60gb harddrive is enough for you? finally any pc-case will do :) total price should be around 700$ for a kickass system :thumbsup |
Dell....
I have 2 of their Dimension 4500s for the last year and they kick ass totally. P4 2.0 Ghz / 512 MB RAM / 80 GB HD / CD burner and flat screen monitor. |

if you want to buy a prebuilt one http://buyabs.com/ has the best prices on the net

You waisting your own money when you buy from dell, futureshop, radioshack and shit like that. Find some chinese store which takes only cash and you could build amazing machine half price less then from big companies, but i'm SURE you will not do that, you will go and blow twice as much money, so my advice is pointless. :glugglug

If your win programs can run on a P-III or less then you can run virtual PC on the mac and be fine. The new g4 / g5's with osx will give you mac + unix + pc (with virtual pc) ... |
