Just got this email from from AOL's marketing dept...anyone know what AOL iYP is?

No matter what that is, stay away from America offline. I lost huge money on its stocks and their dial up and DSL sucked big time.

i say: call him up and find out, just dont invest anything. either way he emailed for a reason...

How do you know that it is for real? Usually they don't email out like that!

I didnt think so either, although I did run a reverse lookup on the 800 number and it was an AOL number. But yea, still could be bogus.

IYP typically stands for internet yellow pages.

I do know (from work I did in a previous life) that AOL is putting a big emphasis on local advertising -- to the point that they created a couple of phone/spam vaults full of minimum wage 'sales consultants' to recruit sites for their IYP product. Can't be sure if this dude's one of them or not... but could be legit.

All that said, if you're interested in generating business in your local (geographically speaking), I'd give him a shout out. When I was dealing with their management back in Reston about 6 mo. ago, they had their shit together, but hadn't really gotten off the ground yet. And 5 min of your life can't hurt, right? :winkwink:
