So what is with putting letters after your name
 

Nothing irks me more than people thinking they are shit hot, and putting letters after their name.

The smartest people I ever met in academia NEVER pushed their degrees in your face, and never once followed their signature or name by their accreditations. Do you think Linus Pauling or Richard Feynman signed their names and then PhD. on their phone bills? Of course not. They probably got embarrased if you called them "Mr." for petes sake.

I think it's because people need to make themselves feel better. The academic world is so much worse than porn for braggarts and back-stabbing. It's disgusting. And most of these guys that suffix their signatures with degrees are 90% assholes that feel the need to tell you what they DID in the past, instead of letting their present work speak for itself.

There is something to be said about being humble. True greatness involves a component of always wanting to be better, not thinking you are the best. So good for you Johnny Jerkoff, BBA. You really impressed me. Sure, I'll take fries with that.
