Easiest way to track a unique visitor?
 

Is the best way to set a cookie and then check to see if that cookie appears in last 24hrs?

How much worse would it be if I logged each ipaddress then checked to see if that ip came in the last hr? (Not sure what to do about proxy since 1 aol surfer can use multiple ips)

Any help is appreciated, the numbers need to be 90-95% accurate.

Cookie would be a good way - but the only problem is - what if the guy has cookie disabled? And the IP problem is the aol multiple IP's! No real easy way to go!

Ask how MPA2 does it.

use both - cookies first, if not present track by IP...

This is the way to go! You just gotta track the proxy that their using. And might need to expire it by time 24 hrs. Because other people are behind the same proxy!
