This is great news!

I heard someone talking about it the other day,
so i did a search and it seems to be true.

On Nov 24, you can keep your Cellphone number if you switch providers.

now i can have my number for life :)

That is awesome news! And it's about fucking time!

In order for SMS technology to work in N America the phone numbers and systems MUST be cross compatible....Being able to change providers and keep your number is a by product of this.

I doubt that the Cell phone companies will really make much noise about this.

Same reason that Britain, Australia and Hong Kong have current SMS technologies that far exceed anything we will have here for the next couple of years.

:2 cents:

Imagine how many people felt trapped to keep their current provider.

I predict in the future everyone keep one phone number for the rest of their life like your SSN.

But this means area codes will pretty much be invalid to the area you actually live.

Personally i can't wait for the day when you can dial someone's car license plate number and talk to the driver:BangBang:

Its even better then that though.

In addition to being able soon to keep your cell phone number if you want to switch service providers, you can also convert your home phone number over to a cell phone service and you can convert a cell phone number over to a home phone number.

Should be a shit load of great deal plans being offered in November.

Now they just need to make a rule so that contracts aren't required. I'd switch providers daily. competition would be so high, cell phones would be really cheap.

You know that's the only problem,,

one time i lost a phone and wanted just to buy a phone. I found out that buying a phone without a new contract ment you had to buy it at full price.. They was typically 2 or 3 times the current price

markell 10-07-2003 12:42 PM

yea i read this in ccn a few months back, even tho it will be mandated n that date, i doubt companies will be able to handle it

polish_aristocrat 10-07-2003 12:42 PM

I decided to pay extra money for a better mobile number when I got my cell phone ( a number easy to remember ). Those who are selling short ICQ numbers, can also consider that. :2 cents:

I'm notorious for dropping cell phones in snow or down stairs or in the ocean, i got insurance from Verizon and they replace your phone free.
