question to people from the UK

is there some sort of protection of minors (age verification) in the UK required by law regarding sexual content on the internet?

what do I have to keep in mind, when running porn sites in the UK?

thanks in advance! :thumbsup

Although I'm no expert in porn, from what I hear, you just don't host in the UK. Host in US.

Not sure if that helps but I wanted to respond so us Brits don't seem like the ignorant fucks we are.

lets say things are blurry here and sometimes blurry is better than clear.

You won't (legally) be allowed to run any decent porn site on UK servers, apart from glamour images.

If the content is hosted in another country, then you must abide by their laws.

Oh dear - people really have no clue most of the time. It doesn't matter which country you host in the courts will still regard it as being published from the UK if you live and upload from there. Go check out the prosecutions against beast sites etc etc to see cases in point.

As usual Sarah summed it up best. It's VERY blurry at the moment and is much better that way. Be sensible and don't show hardcore outside of a members area if you can help it and there's little if no risk. Push extreme stuff and spend your days looking over your shoulder. Push more mainstream stuff and take a small risk.

To my almost certain knowledge there has yet to be anyone prosecuted for stuff that isn't extreme. All UK prosecutions have been for stuff like beast, scat etc etc

Thankfully the relaxation of BBFC regs to allow real hardcore on an R18 seems to have made the authorities more tolerant across the board :) However, nothing is set in stone and if they decided to have a clampdown...

Again, Sarah summed it up best.

As the article says it's a 'commonly held belief'. There are few rights and wrongs with the exception of the 'no-no' list. Live in the UK and do any of the stuff on there and eventually you will end up in court no matter where you host.

As for the rest it's simply a matter of nobody getting into trouble for it YET. Until tested in court nobody can say for sure that the guidelines for R18's do hold true on the Internet.

like Tipsy said, it doesn't matter where you are hosted. Me personally, I try to keep as softcore as I can.
