How do you make a site load faster?
any help would be great i am using frontpage untill i figure out dreamweaver
|
Well, keep your content as "optimized" as possible. That way, when a user loads it, it will load fast and keep them on the site. No one wants to wait 15 minutes for 10 + images to load - specially my good friends that use 56k :-p
Your best bet is to take a look at others sites, diversify your own site, and make something original. Everyone apreciates originality. I hope that helps, man. Good luck! |
I would have some one make the templates but i suffered losing 25 grand and basically i am starting everything from scratch
|
A good start is to stop using FP, then you uninstall FP and finally forget everything about FP.
But if you have a lot of graphics on your page, the HTML is not your biggest problem. Learn how to compress your graphics (Ulead SmartSaver does a great job) properly. Some graphics works better as gif, some as jpg. |
Slap your penis to the screen and make it grow like a carrot.:thumbsup

thank you |
This may sound cruel but why not get off your ass and do some work? The stuff you are asking is very, very basic stuff and has a million and one easy-to-find tutorials out there. Spend some time reading and learning. If you have to ask all this stuff you're not ready yet to be building sites.

mod_gzip helps for pages with lotsa text
|
Pull all Jpeg and giff files off your site!
:1orglaugh just kidding! |

get a better hosting

Using Adobe Photoshop - Save for Web option - amazing tool for reducing images to the best quality/filesize.
Frontpage is fine, it does add lots of crap you don't need, but so does Dreamweaver. After you've finished off the design of the page, open it up in Notepad and remove the crap you don't need. On your webserver, make sure you have mod_gzip installed, it compresses the output and saves a lot of bandwidth. ryan http://pornanza.net |
Hey, man, dreamweaver is 500times better than Frontpage, it's optimized for all browsers unlike Frontpage... I write all my sites in php and dreamweaver, check out www.i2g.net/layout.phpthat's something I just created... it loads fast and the code looks fairly clean... I highly reccomend dreamweaver over frontpage, but then reccomend gedit, kedit or notepad to get the job done!

use stylesheets. You can get the same borders, graphics with 10-50% reduction in code..especially for sites with custom borders, etc...
