WS Domain type in traffic??

i just registered a .WS domain and after 2 days of not doing anything to it i checked the stats and im getting around 100 visits a day. there isnt any referral log stats so im assuming its type in. where else could the traffic come from? i wouldnt think a .WS domain would get type in traffic. does anyone have any idea?

What's the domain?

beemk 10-03-2003 02:33 PM

Yes, unfortunately it's because of many virus infected windows machines. Your ip gets that hits not the domain.

Majority of them will report as "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)"

yeah i just had it blank but now i put up a FPA until i make the tour for it since its getting traffic, ill see if it converts for anything

I believe it's named Welchia. Just to be sure put a simple jpg in that page instead of keeping it blank, none of the virus hits will fetch the pic, they'll just fetch the index html..

I've heard about it.
I have one domain showing 250 hits daily, whereas in reality it's only 2-3. I can't say that I understand this problem well, though.

Sorry I forgot the second part,

IP's selected randomly then virus tries to see if that ip has something it's looking for, most likely tries to see if there is a windows machine or IIS server..

Yes that's the main problem with it; as each hit comes from an authentic windows machine which can be anywhere on earth. So, it's impossible to filter it out as that filter can also deny some real users/customers...

While we are on that I'd like to add that information too, that might help you or someone else..

Don't forget those hits are actually fetching the html code, if you have 50k html code at your index page you will say bye bye to 12.5MB of bandwith daily with that 250 hits..

Also it will ruin your web stats with bogus unique hits. :(

My solution was to switch ip's of the domains that getting those hits, my provider is Jupiter Hosting and they were very helpfull to me with that problem.. :thumbsup
