made a Best Buy employee cry tonight...
I was returning my freaking laptop because it had a dead pixel. The tech guy says, (sounding very much like I couldn't return it) "well it's not considered a defect unless there are 6 or more dead..." and I was like "well you guys sold me a shit laptop so I'm getting a new one tonight." (This is my second satellite s3072, great computer...) So I get done with him and go to the sales guy, he gives me shit but gets me my new computer. I am checking out. It's the same guy that tried to sell me a full setup service for 99.95+49.95+29.95 at least ten times two days ago, where they boot it up, defrag, install norton av (funny, toshibas come with norton,) and do a windows upgrade. He pushes it on me again. And he tries to push the service plan on me again, telling me "I bet you feel silly you didn't buy the service plan, I bet you want it now." So I'm like no I'm not interested, thanks, being so polite it's disgusting.
After the fourth time he says it (literally) I'm like "look I'm all set, please just let me check out." and he's all "hey, I am just trying to help" and I bust "No, you're trying to fucking sell me something I don't want. You're being obnoxious." This brings on an onslaught from the security guy, telling me to CALM down. Keep in mind I never raised my voice, and I've been polite through 2 days of this shit till now. The kid mumbles something under his breath, so I said "Excuse me?" This didn't rub the security guy the right way, who is one of those hot shit kids from high school that never went anywhere. I am checked out and escorted all the way to my car with my new laptop. |
Best Buy blows ass. I love reading all the horrible experiences from customers on http://www.bestbuysux.org

They do the same shit at Future Shop here. The sales guys don't get anything for selling product but they do get something for selling extra warranties and all that shit. I bought my 47" tv there and had the same guy ask me like 6 times if I was sure I didn't want it.. kept bringing out his little notebook going over everything it covered..
I mean, you'd think after asking twice, they'd realize we aren't changing our mind. Its not like saying "so you're SURE you don't want the extra warranty?" is going to make us be like "hmm.. I never thought of it that way! sure I'll take it." meh.. I guess they're just trying to make a buck. Surfers exit sites not wanting to buy and we load them with popups offering more shit right? :glugglug |

My best friend worked there a couple years back, they don't get anything for pushing the extra warranty, BB just pushes them on it hard. Some of the sales associates there that I have dealt with genuinely don't believe that Best Buy is only doing it to make extra money. Does any business do anything if there isn't more money in it for them? As for the consoles... I'm not really a fan, console free all the way around :) |
That's a problem with lcd screens. They have a good to bad crystal ratio standard. If it's below it, it's not considered defective. It really is up to you to check it out before you pay for it.

The sales rep don't make shit, but the managers do.
If the sales rep don't sell the plan a certain %, they'll just simply be fired. It's like the worst of both worlds. You get the "I don't give a fuck" attitude of a non-commision based store, and also the super high pressure and annoying fuck sales tactits of commission-based. It's bullshit 100%. If the sales kids actually made some money off the plans, I'd buy it in some cases. Not because it's a good deal, but just because if I feel some guy went out of his way to help me, I'll help him. There is SOME value in the plans, but not much. The managers are the ones pushing. I think they make the associates ask a certain # of times, my friend told me a long while back. And that # was something insane like 6 times. He told me stories of managers listening in an aisle away, and basically firing folks if they didn't ask that # of times, and/or push the "Accessories" which the managers also get a commission on. Best buy is based in my home state, but I still think they are a shitty ass company. If they went the way of a traditional commission based electronics store, and let sales associates have free reign like some smaller specialty chains here do, they'd be in MUCH better shape both consumer happiness wise, and repeat buyers. -Phil |
excellent ........... I hate Best Buy
|
i know they may not be perfect either, but Circuit City seems to be a little less frustrating to me, to shop in. I just about boycott Best Buy at this point, unless i am going in for something simple like a game or CD
|
I got my laptop from bestbuy.com. Had them mail it to me even though there are about 10 Best Buy stores here in Indy. I hate their sales staff.
|
Best Buy sucks ass, it never fails whatever it is that i want to buy, its out of stock. And they don't give a shit, even the managers are like oh well, try again next week. Which is a bullshit way to run a business! And forget about trying to return anything, they have 999 excuses why you can't return your item. I hate best buy!

interesting. I also read somewhere else about customer service deliberately lying to people about returns over the phone to keep them from coming in to make legit exchanges. |

My buddy bought a nice digital camera at Best Buy and got suckered into the service plan. A month later, the thing stopped working so he took it in. They told him they would have to send it in for repairs first before they gave him a new one. So he sent it in and the tech said "Does not work due to drop damage" = warrenty null and void and service agreement null and void.
My buddy told him it was never dropped and asked the guy to show him one scratch on the camera from the "drop" and they could not but because the tech guy said it was dropped, there was nothing they could do. Bottom line (1) Don't shop at Best Buy and (2) Never ever buy the service agreement because if you do, they will find a way around it shoud something go wrong. Flow |
I guess it's a good thing for me that you have enough sense to root for the right team, so that I don't have to fight with you. :1orglaugh
On an unrelated note, you have really good grammar and spelling. I never noticed that before. :thumbsup |
best buy sucks, enless they have a kick ass sale going on :winkwink:

Got my plane tickets in the mail today. Couldn't get a suite for the game which is what I really wanted, but I am down in 14, which gave me some really cool pictures last year. |
Okay.. time for the opposite. For a tech related item, who has had the BEST experience with a companys CS?
I once had a ViewSonic monitor that just popped one day, smelled smoke in the air and the thing wouldn't turn on. I called them up, it was within my one year warranty so it wasn't a problem, and I didn't even have to ship it back to them.. took it into their warehouse about a 20 minute drive from my house, dropped the box off and the guy gave me a refurbished but looked/worked perfect monitor without even checking the box I dropped off. Had a new working monitor within 24 hours of the old one busting without any hassles, without arguing, nothin.. that was class :thumbsup |
buy your shit online and you never have to deal with all that bullshit. :thumbsup
|
ahh good ole best buy.. ive had to yell on them a few times.. never was aproached by any of the sales guys once i got into a good yelling match
the key is never to swear, you can raise your voice and yell all you want, one fuck they can throw you out |
1) buy insurance on high priced items small items, ie, video cameras
2) wait a few months, maybe a year 3) file an insurance claim, say someone scooped it while u were walking your dog at the park and that you left it on your picnic blanket 4) get a free video camera |

When you leave the keys in your car, you can't file a claim when it is jacked... |
Never buy computer equipment from a store that sells
refrigerators, washers, and dryers. :Graucho |
I always answer the first explanation about the service plan with an "no thank you."
After that, every comment they make i say "oh really?" or "wow, that interesting" or "thanks for the info". Then as i'm checking out they say "so do you want the service plan" and i always respond with "no, i told you the first time you asked that i wasnt interested. the rest of the time i was just being polite." it's interesting how many people give you dirty looks. |

I used to sell computers at Circuit City and since we were comissioned, I wasn't TOO upset if I didn't sell the insurance since it wasn't that much more of a boost for me. I never forced it and I only asked once. As far as the Best Buy clowns...There is no comission other than the insurance, hence the push for those shitty plans. Never buy insurance...for that matter, just shop online and save a few bucks! :thumbsup |
I've gotten 2 new computers through bestbuy with their gay defects. But it's all good since I get practiacally a free upgrade :thumbsup
|
All those service plans are a waste of money,
Manufacturers warranty should cover the first year or so. you should check out Circuit City. they stop commissions on everything so there not as pushy as best buy. They always can set you up on a good price for open box items. Thats how i got a nice miniDV for $150 but i'd never buy a computer or parts from the big retail stores. they jack up the prices |
I got a nice sony vaio
works with all my sony cams etc.. the 10 inch screen.. its about the size of my penis |

Computer stores should only sell computers and the associated equipment. Would you buy 'food' from McDonalds, i think not :Graucho |
