Getting one of the Mozilla products (Firebird is best) and using a firewall will eliminate stop pretty much most worms and spyware junk. Of course, if you're running Outlook, I think there are a whole bunch of unpatched exploits out for that still and you'll be screwed no matter what. Good luck. ;)

Hardware firewalls like a router work best for me.. and I don't have to deal with one more icon in the taskbar like a software firewall.

Only problems I get are from autoinstallers changing start page, adding favorites and desktop icons and shit when reviewing galleries from the redirectors :ak47:

Start with a firewall

Definitely get a firewall with NAT.
Use Mozilla browser.
And for god's sake don't use outbreak espress or any other email program that forces you to view messages in HTML.

A good choice for email is Courier from Rose City Software or Mozilla email.

1. Hardare firewall.
2. Software firewall. (tiny personal firewall, zonealarm etc)
3. Mozilla Firebird (replace your browser)
4. Mozilla thunderbird (replace outlook)
5. Automate windows update - for what thats worth.
