Adobe Illustrator People...

I forgot how to manipulate text making the text into different shapes. I remember I did it before, just forgot. I remember you could make the text bend and transform into shapes like a fish shape, wavy, etc..

thanks in advance.

bump I'd like to know also.

SetTheWorldonFire 10-02-2003 06:04 PM

? do you mean create outlines?

The Truth Hurts 10-02-2003 07:10 PM

Effect>Warp

pick an option.

katsuki 10-02-2003 07:26 PM

hey
i'm an illustrator guru (sometimes)
This is how i do it

>object
>>envelop distort
then "make with warp"

Make sure you have the preview option turned on so you can see what it'll look like.

You can also go back and edit it... that feature rocks.. when used properly ^__^

im using AI9 and i dont have: object> "envelop distort" and i dont have Effect "warp". do i need 10?

The Truth Hurts 10-03-2003 02:19 AM

I'm on 10.. both my and katsuki solutions work there..
Not sure about 9... can't be too different..

The Truth Hurts 10-03-2003 02:22 AM

have you tried loading the help files and searching for warp?

So basically, you have no answer.

Well I think he is talkin about converting text to paths such that he will be able to mess with the curves with Bezier Curves once the text has been broken down.

Truth Hurts...

Why are ya always a cocksucker?

I don't have 9 (using 10), so I don't know if this applies, but it's really simple.

Say you have your text all typed and formatted, and you already have your shape drawn (like a fish or whatever). Just copy or cut the text into the buffer (CTRL-C or CTRL-X, respectively), select the text tool, and move the text cursor over the shape at the desired insertion point until your cursor changes to a text cursor with a *slanted* line on the bottom. Click there and paste the text.

Alternatively, have the shape drawn, select the text tool, and click at the desired insertion point on the shape (again, the cursor should change to the text tool with a slanted line under it to make the text conform to the shape) and start typing the text. You can easily modify it later.

Hope that helps.

If upgrading to AI10 is out of the question, and don't want to do shit the hard way.. look for a plugin called FilterIt, it'll do what ya want.

Because your posts are almost always unjustifiably cocky.

Baal 10-03-2003 02:45 AM

Shit, I think I mis-read your question. My advice would just make the text follow a fish-shaped path, and NOT expand it into a fish shape itself. My bad.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-03-2003 02:51 AM

:eek7
And your the source to figure out those sort of things here on GFY?

Fuckit...

I am takin a last shot of this tequila and hittin the sack.

katsuki 10-03-2003 05:36 AM

sorry, my bad, wasn't sure what version of illustrator u were using!!
I'm sure u could warp it in ver9.

And don't diss illustrator, it's brilliant program...when u take the time to learn it! ^__^
