A Chicken on Skis?

Anyone know when the snow skiing season is and maybe recommend where I should go? Looking for a hunting lodge type of place. Snow-mobile rentals a must. Thanks if you can give me some advice and pointers on this.

:2 cents: Hello there Choker.

We had a blast here because you could go on unguided snowmobile tours, and WinterPark was less commercial that Vail, Aspen, & Keystone.

Also, if you have never been on snow skis take the lessons, they are well worth the money and you will enjoy your time on the slopes much better than trying to learn the hard way.

I don't remember how young your kids are but the younger the better, the kids learn quick!:thumbsup

I live in Orlando man, you can't throw a rock without hitting a lake. When I am not wrecking my boat, we go water skiiing every week in the summer. My kids have never even seen snow before. I am looking more for the wilderness lodge with a big stone fireplace sort of thing, not so much the snow skiing just the GUARANTEED snow. LOL

There is always Steamboat Springs Colorado.... they don't call it Ski Town USA for nothin'. I think at present we have 32 Winter Olympians that train here. There is almost 3000 skiable acres, 22 lifts and ski season starts the middle of November :)

And us locals are very friendly :thumbsup

Winter Park is awesome... Me living in Denver, Winter Park is one of the best places to go away for a while. I love going snowshoing there! I recommend it as well! I can give you more personal info if you want....

I loved Taos New Mexico last time I was there. The town was rustic and lots of good shopping. You can find a place close to the slopes and get a lodgey type thing.

Here are a few links I dug up:

http://www.longhornchalet.com/ (definitely gets my vote)

Jackson Hole rocks. First place i ever skied. It's a killer town with such an old west kinda feel.
You are guaranteed snow.. and the all the resorts have those neat-o fireplaces you mentioned.
Jackson Hole pretty much borders Yellowstone, so you can take some kickass snowmobile rides thru the preserves. One of my fav vacations ever :thumbsup

I have skiied everywhere and lived in Jackson Hole, was on the National Ski Patrol for 2 years there, and In my opinion, JH has the best skiing around.
Not to mention in the small but very busy town of Jackson, there is a mountain called Snow King, small, but alot of fun, and also has night skiing. Then there is Targhee, only 30 mins over the pass for some of the best powder skiing youll find anywhere. The best of all worlds lies within a 40 mile radius.

They even have a major airport so you can fly in as well.
