JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 2-year-old girl left home alone for 2 1/2 weeks while her mother was in jail has been released from the hospital after being treated for malnutrition and dehydration, officials said Wednesday

The child, who survived by eating ketchup, mustard and dried pasta, was released late Tuesday from Wolfson Children's Hospital to the custody of the state Department of Children & Families.
"The only thing I can tell you is that she is in good condition," hospital spokesman David Foreman said.

The little girl had been left alone since her mother, Dakeysha Telita Lee, was jailed Sept. 10 for aggravated assault and petty theft, police said. The mother was charged Monday with child abuse, and was being held Tuesday on $20,000 bond.

The child's father, Ogden Lee, who is separated from the 22-year-old mother, said he had been trying to contact her for two weeks and did not learn until Sunday night that she was in jail.

When a manager let him into the apartment, the youngster was lying nude in a baby's bathtub, covered with a towel and was watching a TV cartoon channel. She was filthy and covered with dry ketchup and jelly, Sheriff John Rutherford said Tuesday.

When the police took her into custody, they just walked out and left the child there alone????
The father can't get in touch for TWO FRIGGING WEEKS and doesn't bother to go over and check?? If my child was there and I couldn't get in touch for two DAYS I'd be over there checking things out.

And please explain to me why the mother is being charged with child abuse when she was in jail while this was going on?

Thank god the little girl was resourceful enough to find something to eat - jesus what the fuck is wrong with the world these days??? Shit like this makes me just want to stop the fucking world and get off.

That's the most fucked up thing i've read in ages. Why was nobody sent to pick up the kid? It's not like they wouldn't know she had a child.

She probably told the police nobody was in the house. Or maybe she wasn't anywhere near her house at the time... Or maybe they just didn't care.

The real answers are not part of the story yet ... and is probably why she was arrested.

When they arrested her the first time they must have done an interview for the jail processing.

Questions like:
How many dependants do you have?
Who has custody?
Where are they now?

I cannot concieve that these questions were not asked. If they were asked and answered frauduently then she will be seeing some hard jail time.

If they were answered honestly and the state didn't follow up she'll be seeing a big settlement check compliments of the state.

If you want to know why, look at the education system where she grew up.

But she wasn't, was she now?

The police wouldn't have just left a 2 year old at home alone because that would bring them up on charges as well for knowingly leaving a child in that situation. The Mother probablly got arrested outside of her home.

I would imagine that she is being charged because she didn't say anything about her daughter being unsupervised while she was incarcerated, not to mention leaving her at home when she left for what I presume would have been her trial...just a guess.
