if someone you know, family or friend...

someone close to you.... was given only a few months to live... what would you do for them (or with them) before their time ran out?

MetaMan 09-30-2003 12:34 PM

stop reminding them they r dying by doing things out of ordinary.

boneprone 09-30-2003 12:36 PM

Take em to Vegas and get em the finest 3 hookers money can buy. All at once.

There is no other way than 3 at a time.

Good times.

SilverTab 09-30-2003 12:36 PM

everything they want....I'd definitly try to spend all my times with him/her... Hope you're not asking because you're in this situation right now....

boneprone 09-30-2003 12:37 PM

Thats if they were a buddy.

IF they were an older person like a Grandpa or Aunt, or mom or somtehing of course it would be different.

But if it were a buddy, thats what Id do.

quiet 09-30-2003 12:37 PM

take them somewhere they've always to go but where never able.

Peaches 09-30-2003 12:37 PM

Ask them what THEY wanted to me to do. :)

ASk them if they wanted to hang out...

boneprone 09-30-2003 12:40 PM

Truthfully the best thing you can do for anyone in a spot like this is to just be there for them. Be there to listen. Be there to cheer em up. Be there for them to cry on. The key is being there.

Doesnt really matter what you choose to do with them in those last days, weeks or months, becasue everyone's likes and dislikes are different.

The key is just being there.
To be there to do what they want to do, or to encourage them to do what they liked to do maybe once upon a time.

Everryone is different. But the key they share in common is that the best you can do for them is to be there for them. No one wants to die alone.

Chris 09-30-2003 12:41 PM

Treat them like a normal person

Depends on how they felt about it.

If they didn't want any special attention I would just treat them as normal, although make the most of my time doing it.

If they were bummed out and feeling down and it was someone I really cared about I would go to the ends of the earth for them.

Reak 09-30-2003 12:43 PM

cheer him up, do a lot of things he would love. Going to a theme park, shopping, going out, casino, stripclub. You name it you do it. It should the best time of his life right..

toonces 09-30-2003 12:46 PM

Just went through this. Do whatever they want. Just becuase you might always have wanted to see the Canary Islands doesn't man they have.
Don't be afraid to touch them. Ask their advice (interesting perspective I'll tell you).

Make the time as fun as their health will allow. Take risks yourself. I drove my car down a tiny bike path through a park we loved, to sit in a spot that we loved, and could have easily hiked to a few months before. We had a lot of laughs over that.

haha.. sounded like a good idea.. then I realized I would then have to die to make good on your offer. Oh well.. I know who to call if I ever get diagnosed terminal.

boneprone 09-30-2003 12:47 PM

be sure to have your attorney draft up some papers for ya.
When they are at the last leg and cant think straight, you can reward yourself for your time put in by having them sign over some of thier belongings left over or assets to you..

It's what Anna Nichole did. And if that dumb bitch can pull it off, im sure you could too.

JDog 09-30-2003 12:48 PM

Act ordinary and let them know how much they mean to you! That's the thing I didn't do and I regret, someone in my family was given 6 months, and he was gone in 2 1/2 and I'll always feel bad because I didn't say one word to him :(

No ,what's nice is that a post about someone dying turned into a hookers and partying in Vegas. Very nice and compassionatte.

GigaChris 09-30-2003 12:56 PM

what ever they wanted to do before they pass

grogan 09-30-2003 01:00 PM

whatever they asked I guess,

or blow their brains out, depending in the situation perhaps.

You dont like hookers and Vegas?

So if your buddy were dying and liked hookers and Vegas you'd say no, and have em laying in bed so you could "touch" him instead ehh?

boneprone 09-30-2003 01:05 PM

BTW, my cat's name is toonces..

I just kicked em in the head..

Dont make me do it again.

Mr. Jim 09-30-2003 01:10 PM

It depends on who it is

If it were my grandmother we would drink ginger ale and watch match game and I would listen to how handsome Gene Rayburn is....because she met him once you know....

one of my buddies....pinned in an off shore boat drinking martini's right out of the shaker partying with Brazilian chicks who do not understand the language

all in who it is

although given the right mood g-ma might dig it too

I dont think my buddy and the brazilian chicks could dig on match game though....

Who is John Galt???

Mutt 09-30-2003 01:28 PM

everybody's different, don't assume what you would want is what this dying person wants. since you haven't actually been in the situation yourself even you don't know what you would want in the same situation. some people would choose to do things like go to a place they'd always wanted to go to and never mention their illness, others would choose to do nothing out of the ordinary. Dying people have lots of anger, if you patronize them and keep saying Pollyanish type stuff some will get very pissed off at you.

Ok well then you may want to get all the facts before you make a crude comment like that. I'm so mad or I'd blow this off. But what I meant by "touching" a dying person is me carrying my friend who went from 150lbs to 80lbs to get her out of the house because she was too weak to stand on her own. Everyone else was too flipped out to do it. 36-dead -pancreatic cancer-I was with her when she died. Your response was a degredation of her memory.

Ross 09-30-2003 02:06 PM

I'd make sure they enjoyed their time they had left!
