SnapNames reviews anyone?

OK so I bought my first snapnames credits today and picked 5 very high end one word mainstream names. I'm just wondering how many of these I might actually win. They're all expiring between november and january and none of them have a developed site up.

Was it worth my $345 or not? :glugglug

joshuawk 09-29-2003 07:21 PM

IF you have a snap on them and they expire I would say you
have a 65% chance of winning them.

Dirty F 09-29-2003 07:21 PM

I think that depends on who else did the same thing.

I sounds obvious to me that its a big difference if 2 or 50 people backordered those same names.

I did it for the first time a few weeks ago with 2 names using godaddy.

I got 1.

SomeCreep 09-29-2003 09:08 PM

Nowadays with auto-renew coming standard with most registrars, its not as easy to snap domains. If no other snap back providers have orders for those domains and the domains are not renewed, then your chances are good.

Maybe back in the day you had a 65% chance with having the Snap, but nowadays Pool owns and there is way too much competition. If you want a name bad, cover all the bases that you can and hope to god a private catcher like BuyDomains doesn't catch it.

During the period from May 2002 to November 2002, Dark Blue Sea
progressively acquired a portfolio of approximately 120,000 domain
names, as an additional source of traffic for our advertisers and
affiliates. The total cost of the portfolio was approximately US$1.1
million. The company's domain name portfolio is now one of the
largest in the world both in terms of size and the volume of traffic
it generates.
Was reading it when I saw this thread. Kinda releated :P

I've successfully snapped back 1 domain using snapnames. I have 1 more domain I'm waiting on. crosses fingers :)

slavdogg 09-29-2003 11:09 PM

if WLS goes into effect, than snapnames goes out of biz oct 27th this year.

cluck, wanna make a deal ?
sell me the list of those domains that you just put snaps on.

sacX 09-30-2003 01:14 AM

think the WLS will hits a few snags before October 27.. especially since ICANN recently sent a letter asking whether VRSN had fulfilled several obligations, to which this point they've made no public disclosure of doing so..

anyway I thought if WLS goes into effect snapnames were basically going to buy WLS on every name with a snap.

Depends on the names.
I once offer $1500 for SexEducation.NET and I think he wanted 5000 so I purchased a SnapNames and got it for 69 bucks 4 months later. : )

There was once screwup on SexEducation.com in payment processing and Snapped my own domain back ...
I think their good.

Good Luck with your names.

joshuawk 09-30-2003 01:43 AM

the asian guy from hong kong being ultimate search?

who are they.
they beat me all the time.

DarkJedi 09-30-2003 01:48 AM

SnapNames are great. I've had a 100% sucess probability with them.

Just don't go after high PR domains, because after you re-register them the PR will drop (it happed to all the domains i re-registered)

Snapnames has been the worst snapper I've used, Pool, GoDaddy and NameWinner have all done better.

yeah except pool sucks ass if the name is semi-decent, because then the name just goes into an auction and buydomains.com will out bid you :).. same sort of setup with namewinner now too

namewinner used to be the best value for money out there, pretty decent success rate and you could lock them in for $8.75..

you gotta hook up your own RRP connect to make it in the drop game, imo

I've been mostly in the snappers for good PR domains so the competition hasn't been as rough as say trying to get type-in quality domains. But I agree, sometimes the registrar that wins is some lame ass registry that's private for getting good drops. It sucks but not much you can do...
