*Porche* fans. Please help me. What's it really worth?
My needed an AWD for the winter, so we went out and bought her one yesterday. In the process, I happened to run across a '79 - 928 sitting in a back lot.
'79, v8, auto ( :( ) black, 100% body, 40,000 actual. Now, we had a red 81 just like it. I sold it around 1995 for $3,500 with 110,000 miles on it. This black Porche doesn't even have a door ding, all factory. New looking tires, runs fine. The deal with this car is this guy had a Targa or something that blew a couple turbos, somehow sued Porche or the dealer, and enede up with this 928. Drove it hard for 3 months and lost his license. By the time he got his license back, he'd had enough of Porches for a while. Driven seldom now, I'll probably end up having to go through all of the seals, calipers, master cylinder, belts, hoses, fuel system... ... ... besides, try to get the smell of VolksWagon out of the seats :) Interior is just fine. No brake pedal wear... etc.. He wants 10 grand. Private party value on a fair condition, 1983 is $5,000. Seems like a lot to me, but.. considering the year, miles and condition? Besides, where I live I can only drive it about 4 months out of the year. What do you think? |
I think its an old 928, its not a collectable, and not worth over book value.
And you are right, if it hasnt been driven in quite a while, you'll have alot of things to replace. Start with the brakes and brake hoses. |
Sounds like a lot of work to be done to it. Is it really worth it?

Dealer retail in my area would be $7750 private party $5,200. Info gotten from edmunds.com.

Thank you guys (and PK). MrPheer, you're right. Brakes are the most important thing on a Porsche, LOL.
Just like you never see a Trans Am in the wrecking yard because it was rear-ended :) It may be worth the extra bucks to go with it, I know it's not a collectable, but the ride from a 928 is one of the best. Besides, I really miss the red one still. I could probably find a cheaper one in Denver, but it'd probably be more beat. I dunno. Black is not exactly my favorite... Thank you. All input is really appreciated. |
