Are email programs shaving unintentionally ??

had my programmer buddy looking into something that has to do with my email program ... was inquiring about a remote panel.

anyhow, he asked for my ref code, and i gave to him (the link i send surfers to)

he says that in mozilla, it is not carrying the ref code when the page refreshes, and it is NOT setting a cookie.

hence there is a good chance that i am losing signups if they happen to have mozilla.

Is this common for programmers to overlook this?

PS - it is not a major program, its a private sponsor for me alone. i will take the issue up with owner.

no idiot, my stats show it can be as high as 25%

now getting paid over $2 per signup, to lose 25% of sales is fucking HUGE

Do you even know what Mozilla is?

Its the largest part of your traffic... if not.

JDog 09-25-2003 08:16 PM

Actually it's not the fact that it isn't setting the ref code, or setting the cookie it is actually not refreshing the page! It showed me all the meta tags in the browser! So it isn't even setting the shit..

What about non-email programs?

lil2rich4u2 09-25-2003 08:18 PM

JDog how possible is it that other email progs such as FTC or CEmags have overlooked this as well?

not such a big deal for me since its only a private sponsor, but i cant imagine this going over too well on a big program.

Actually it shouldn't be that big of a deal at all for this sponser to fix it! I'm sure it is a little tweak in the code. And I'm pretty sure big players have their shit running correctly, I know CEmags does!

right its not a big deal to fix it, but you know the volume i send to this sponsor, 25% can mean $$hundreds$$ per day i am losing.

so yea he can fix it tommorow and all is good, and thats what will prolly happen .... but i still lost an ass load of cash, lol

PS. you are prolly right, i cant see a huge program overlooking this.

Outta of the 70 someodd numbered sponers i push, sites i push, probably signed up for 30 programs, this was the first time i ran into this error coming up! I've never run in to a problem with mozilla and be refreshed, this sponser was just being quick and sloppy and IE will take some sloppyness! But mozilla you can't be as sloppy in the coding!

I'm sure they shave you enough as it is without having to worry about the 1% of old school still using mozilla. I'd be worrying more about all the standard shaving they are doing.

everytime he does a job for me, its like pulling teeth to find out what i owe him lol

slapass 09-25-2003 08:49 PM

mozilla=IE ? or am I wrong. Not a programmer so I have no clue but I know my stats pretty much say I 90+% Mozilla traffic.

Every program shaves in one way or another im sure.. It still only boils down to what you make. Other than the fact i cant stand to work for someone i KNOW is ripping me off and thinks they are clever and tricky and getting away with it . that just pisses me off . :)

you may be right, but this is a different situation.

it is a VERY amateur setup, which i dont mind because of the money i make, and i am sure he would setup a few other things before he put money or time into a shaving system.

and yes, it is all about the check ... and in this case the check is fucking huge .... thats why i didnt, and wont mention the site or the owner.

I think he is not knowing whats going on ... he is the type that would just hire a programmer to set everything up, i blame the programmer.

hopefully he will see my point, and have it fixed .... hell, its such a small program and since i am only affiliate id be almost willing to pay to have it fixed myself! (by JDog ofcourse lol)

like i said, my stats show 25%+ are mozilla users .... so even if he does shave, i might end up with 15%-20% sales increase.

which in this case is a HUGE jump. :2 cents:
