Shooting video and stills - lighting tips?
If you shoot video and stills at the same time, what lighting are you using?
I plan on using flash strobes for the digital pics, but are the modeling lights good enough for video, too? Or are you supplementing with something like a Lowel Tota light? Inititally, I'm thinking I should be more concerned about the stills exposing properly... but maybe the video is more important these days. Thoughts? |
I'd say video is as important or more then photos these days. But you still need properaly exposed stills.
You need more light then modeling lights if there is any action for video. I prefer florescents like the Lowel Case-light myself. The florescents are much cooler and the model isn't sweating her ass off with them. The light is soft, not harsh like the halogens. |
Heat has been the only drawback to using the Totas for my non-adult work. In large areas they are fine, but in smaller settings they do make things hot.
Originally I had stills stuck in my head -- high-res well-lit like at ww.alsscan.com -- but doing it for a fetish market (a lot of fetish stuff isn't high-res or well lit, IMHO). But maybe video would be the way to go, with stills being secondary. Or like you said, just shut up and do both :glugglug |
