I guess we know now what happend to Scores Cash

Over the last several days i've seen a ton of posts wanting to know where scores cash has been. It seems as if Acacia got their hooks into them and basically forced them to sign their agreement. Story here

bigdog 09-24-2003 04:18 AM

does anyone know how much they paid?

Paul Markham 09-24-2003 04:22 AM

You do not mean the Score Group do you? I spoke to their people and they were undecided about what to do.

dchottie 09-24-2003 04:30 AM

Well the article mentions Go Entertainment and links to THIS page. And that page in turns links to THIS page. So you follow the trail.

And no, I have no clue how much they paid. I'm sure it was whatever is in the standard licensing package that Acacia sent out and if Acacia has held true it was just for royalties from this point forward and not any back penalties. Although, it seems they had them between a rock and a hard place so they may have paid some back penalties.

But, the article also says they didn't show up in court. I wonder if they ever got the subpoena to show up. This is the second site that i'm aware of that has gone down due to not appearing in court. The first was David Lace's site. I guess if you get a subpoena you damn well better put in an appearance or ask for a continuance one.

evil, ridiculous, typical.

Kind of ironic to think that Cnet is doing the reporting on Acacia pullling the plug on Scores Cash, and they'll probably be a major target themselves in the future. Shit, they've got flash banners on their site... which seem to be covered under the "all encompasing" streaming media patents as well. I'm positive they have shitloads of streaming video content, and who knows what else.

Matt_WildCash 09-24-2003 05:19 AM

Well you can't afford not to show up in court to these bastards, you have to fight them or pay them

dchottie 09-24-2003 05:45 AM

I think it's ironic that any site is doing a story on it considering about 75% of the websites on the internet are using some form of what Acacia claims they have a valid patent on.

Dogs that i call my friends , prayin for my friends/.

bigdog 09-24-2003 05:56 AM

is anyone fighting them in court at all?

the indigo 09-24-2003 06:00 AM

If we are talking about Score Group (seventeen)... why the hell didn't they fight the thing in court?

Aren't they millionaires?

swingerman 09-24-2003 06:01 AM

hmmm... on the xbox.com site are MANY streaming movie files.
would be interesting to see:
Acacia vs. Microsoft

dchottie 09-24-2003 06:03 AM

I'm not sure that anyone has actually made it to court yet. That might be something the IMPA could address better than I could.

Acacia doesn't have the money to take on Microsoft and they know that.
I'm sure Microsoft's lawyers are already prepared for it, but it's not like they can send a letter to Acacia saying "we hereby summon you to sue us for patent infringement".

dchottie 09-24-2003 06:16 AM

It looks like ScoresCash and ScoreGroup are owned by two separate entities. ScoreGroup is based out of Florida while ScoresCash is in Curacao. But i'm not 100% positive about that.
