industry standard is 60% but...

I havent had enough experience in the paysite business to come up with an answer yet but... The most common payout for partnership is 60%. What is the highest % a paysite owner could offer without losing money? 75%?

Sly_RJ 09-23-2003 11:26 PM

I did some "speculation" numbers the other night, and I would be able to pay out 75% and still make a couple extra bucks. Of course, that's 75% AFTER the processor fee.

playa 09-23-2003 11:26 PM

well lets see,, the average proccessing fee is 15%

I have 9.9% but.... whos counting? Give it 15 though... that leaves 85%. how much you actually think you spend on hosting/content/etc...?

id say they wouldnt want to go much over 80%

Sly_RJ 09-23-2003 11:30 PM

Hosting and content depend on volume. The more members you push through, the less it costs per member.

4Pics 09-23-2003 11:32 PM

The norm is 50% I think and some pay 60%, but any that pay more then 60% typically have popups you don't get paid for or cross sells that can make your rentention not last.

drunkdollars 09-23-2003 11:34 PM

We pay 50% before processors. Ill do a test with 10 people and pay them 75% before processors for life LOL

Morgan 09-23-2003 11:38 PM

hey 4pics... your a neighbor... hit me up on icq...

Rochard 09-23-2003 11:39 PM

Hosting and content isn't the only two expenses.

- Payroll: For 12 employees, including customer support.
- Office Space: For said employees.
- Computer Equiptment: For said 12 employees, plus lap tops for marketing who travels on the road. To be 100% legal you have to PURCHASE your software - Do you know how much MS office costs these days?
- Marketing Expenses: Marketing people don't go on the road and pay for this out of their own pocket. Plane flights, rental cars, hotel rooms, booze...... It adds up quickly.
- Promotional Events: Don't get me started.

I could go on...... Cameras? Legal Fees? Shit like Acacia? Accountants?

I know a few one-man operations who run very successful sites.

He never said he was. But to imply that a larger operation (example: LightSpeed) is needed to make a nice little profit is ridiculous. There are plenty of people living well from their paysites ran from their home office.

% doesn't mean anything until it is multiplied by conversions.

35% x 1:100 > 80% x 1:500

Thanks eros!!! I think he's just a sad sad man, he cant help himself.

PerfectionGirls 09-24-2003 08:43 AM

Rochard has it right.... to run a network of sites takes more then one person and ALOT more money then people can imagin. god.. I wish it were only processing and BW.

I ran 5 sites on my own and made enough to cover my bills and a bit extra... we did not take off until we hired some great people.. then it just went nuts. One site can be done on ones own, but man... its hard to make money when you have more then one or two sites.... you get pulled to many directions and areas of your business began to suffer.

You can?

Let me introduce you to BryanY. He edits all our pictures, makes our videos, and updates all of the sites. I believe he does 45 updates spread out across 24 sites - every week.

So that takes up your time five days a week - which doesn't take into consideration that you have to shoot the content yourself or deal with 7000 plus webmasters. What the hell do you do when you have to go a show in Florida for the better part of a week? Who's gonna deal with your webmasters and do customer support?

Yes, you can run a single site on your own. A single web site updated once or twice a week - no problem. But one person can't maintain 24 websites, deal with customer support, webmasters, and marketing.

clubsexy 09-24-2003 09:18 AM

Good thread Ganj!

Makes me rethink my approch and wonder if being a one man band will ever cut it?

i dont deny that

but not everyone can become another quiet, just because they can operate the site

Theo 09-24-2003 09:43 AM

there's no doubt that big operations require many many human hours.

Personally if the site retains and converts (which means it is frequently updated and most probably with exclusive content) im satisfied with 50% partnership.

sweetcuties 09-24-2003 10:28 AM

I'm a 1 man show and I operate 4 sites myself... with my partner that makes is 2 (3 soon). It can be done but it depends how far you wanna go and how much $$ you wanna make! I do very well with no complaints. Sure, I'm not as big as quiet or a few others but I'm within the top 1% of people other there, so I'm happy. I shoot all content, updates and all the other stuff involved. Just my 1 :2 cents:

yes. im sure if i had a shitload of sites then it would be a different story, but no problem in running one paysite all by myself.
