12 Digit Phone Numbers
 

Planning for conversion to a 12 digit phone number system is underway. The current 10 digit number base will be depleted sometime within the next decade.

Another interesting growth area is Voice over IP (Internet phone calls). Phone calls on the Net are now over 18 Billion minutes annually, which represents 10% of the 180 Billion minutes total.

I'm surprised we didn't run out of numbers sooner with the introduction of pagers, cell phones and countless other devices that all have phone numbers.
