I need movie buffs for a second
Okay, have my script writing class tomorrow morning...I am suppose to bring in one example of great dialouge and one of really bad dialouge. I have the great one covered...any nominations for the worst?
|
Great dialouge? Um, I liked alot fo the dialouge in Snatch. Not all that deep, but well timed and creative. That just me.
Bad dialouge, anything from Battlefield Earth. Especially where they send a bunch of humans to an abandoned city to "try to find out what their favorite food is". That always seemed a little odd to me. |

Good dialogue should be 'Superfly' for its skillful use of jive.
Or 'The Royal Tennenbaums': Royal - You want to talk some jive with me, Coltrane? Henry - Did you just call me Coltrane? Royal - No. |
Bad dialogue, Caveman with ringo star.

I just looked it up on imdb...the tag line to that movie was actually: "Mark needs a scholarship to get into Harvard. There's one more available for a black student. The problem is Mark's not black... Yet." ..lol..yeah, that would happen today. |
Does the example of bad dialogue have to come from a movie, or can it be from a TV script? If you can use TV, turn on just about any TV drama for 10 minutes, and you'll have yourself some bona fide crap right there...
For movies, Showgirls would be a good one... can't recall the exact line that made me stand up and walk out on that one (when watching it for free at a friend's house, no less), but I still have the scars from it buried deep in my psyche somewhere... - Q. |
Soul Man! They just don't make them like that anymore. Rae Dawn Chong, Ayre Gross, James Earl Jones...Fabulous! There's always "Krull" as well. Outstanding in every way!

Anyway, worst movie - State Property, 2002 starring Beanie Sigel This wasn't a movie, it was a 2 hour video:) |
pulp fiction had some of the best
episode II had some of the worst. perfect example of how bad dialogue can ruin a great movie. |

Some of the worst dialouge I have ever heard was in the original Gone in 60 seconds, not the one with Nic Cage, but the original 70's one... man it was horrible!
Also Thou Shall Not Kill Except is pretty damn bad too, it's a Josh Becker film, PU |

One of my favorite movies for dialogue is The Way of the Gun or Pump up the Volume
|
I know you don't need suggestions for the example of great dialogue, but I can't leave a thread about dialogue without mentioning that David Mamet writes just about the best dialogue I've ever heard... especially Glengarry Glen Ross. (And the cast in that one ain't too shabby, either...)

plan 9 from outer space has the worst in everything. dialogue included! just fast forward to the last scene where the alien guy is explaining the solarbanite
|
great dialouge....Mr. pink rant of tipping resevoir dogs
bad...the Dr. Seuss "Are you my Motheresque" Spielberg wanna be Kubrik A.I. I hated that movie...yeah yeah...you want to be a real .....boy...oh wait you are a real boy....whatever.... or Lose the Zero and get with the hero...Vanilla Ice "Cool as Ice" could be the worst movie ever made.....battlefield earth is right there though |
