HELP!!! Outlook Express FUCKED UP!!

FUCK!! Today when I oppened Outlook Express 6 to check my e-mails I saw that ALL the e-mails on my inbox were gone!! The only one that was there was the: "Welcome to Outlook Express 6" e-mail!!!

I haven't changed any configurations and haven't installed any new software or patch (nothing at all), so all my e-mails simply dissapered for no reason!!

Is there any way I could get my e-mails back??

The odd thing is that all the other folders that I have inside Outlook are intact! No e-mails were deleted from the other folders....

COULD YOU GUYS PLZ HELP ME OUT!! I'M DESPERATE!!!

A few months ago, this was happening to me constantly. I think my fiance was able to retrieve some of my messages - (I can ask him how this was done.)

I know how you feel, as it is extremely frustrating. Try un-installing and then re-installing IE. If the problem persists, contact your ISP, which could be the source of the problem.

This is the first time that this problem happens to me.... And yes, it is REALLY FRUSTRATING!!

Could you find out if your fiance retrieved some of the messages and how she did it??

That happend to me 3 times now, the last time was a couple of months ago. For me it seemed to happen when I checked my email, I thought that it was something that came into my box that caused a problem and whiped it out.

Outlook express files are in .dbx format. Search your PC for those. Each folder has its own .dbx file like this: inbox.dbx.

and for the future:

Genie Software - Outlook express backup.

tranza 09-23-2003 07:58 AM

YES!! FOUND IT!! I did a search for the .dbx files (they were C:\Documents and Settings\my user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{E6AACD02-FD31-40B9-8398-60DE1939E7FD}\Microsoft\Outlook Express)

Then, I found out that I had 2 inbox files (inbox (1).dbx - 50 k and inbox.dbx - 17 MB!!) So I deleted inbox(1) and renamed inbox to inbox(1) and everything got back to normal!!!

I have all my e-mails now!! Thanks everyone!!! Specially KRL for helping me figure out wich file I had to look for....

Never hurts to do a backup of "C:\Documents and Settings\my user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{E6AACD02-FD31-40B9-8398-60DE1939E7FD}\Microsoft\Outlook Express" every now and again ( but I back up my whole profile EVERY DAY, I save every email and they go back to 1998, lost prior to that due to a HD crash). I use a program called "SecondCopy2000" that backs up my important files every night. Their site is at http://www.centered.com/ . I think it was around $30.00 for the program and I have a second hard drive I back up data to. Hope this helps for the future.

Just my :2 cents:
