You nobody knows the exact meaning to that song. You could find webpages, that go line by line, but Don McLean won't verify any of them because he feels that it was what 30 yrs ago now or something, and so he verify or tell anybody. Prick..LOL

I love Don McLean's song especially American Pie. Too bad the movie wasn't based on the song then I would have watched it...

I always interpreted it as his general perception of the late '60s...nothing specific

I don't know what the whole song is about, but the main thrust of the song at the start when he talks about "bad news on the doorstep" meaning the morning newspaper bringing the bad news of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly etc...hence "the day the music died"

Listen to all the lyrics at the start and it all pieces together. But as far as the rest of the song, who knows what it all means.

..Infact the whole American pie album is awesome. The songs Vincent, empty chairs, crossroads, all written by Mclean are amazing. If you listen to the lyrics and hear his melodies he was and is the best singer songwriter ever.:)

Little known fact that Vincent by Don Mclean is the biggest selling piece of sheet music every.

Another fact you might not know...the song 'Killing Me Softly With His Song'..last done by the Fugees but previously (and better in my view) done by Roberta Flack was written about going to a Don Mclean concert.

....wasn't that the producer of that movie where the father cought the son fucking a warm apple pie?
