The beginning of the new 64 bit CPU era
AMD debuts its new Athlon64 tomorrow.
http://www.cpplus.com/images/athlonch.jpg Intel is shipping its 64 bit CPU, the Itanium next year which will have over 477 Million transistors, over 8 times more than the first Pentium 4. http://it.asia1.com.sg/v2/pics/speci...21030_006b.jpg By 2007, computer engineers say they will be able to place over 1 Billion transistors on a CPU. |
FUCKING WOW! :thumbsup

Sweeeeet, must buy.
|
we have to wait till next year?
|

You sure? |
The Itanium 2 architecture is already running in selected educational super-computing centers. Although clocked only around 800 to 1000Mhz, the leaps in performance are quite stunning.
|
Lol, you guys are funny.
OOOooh, AAaaaaah, big numbers! get your facts in order... |
yeah, buy a mac and you can get this kind of processing power already and then you can have it squashed by shitty software high prices and no compatibility with the population at large! Its great!
|
yes, the G5 is 64 bit.
http://www.apple.com/powermac/ should be in the powerbooks by next year - i'll wait till then... |
Well next year mine will really be a dino, Geez just when you think you have something decent it' already old:(
|
macs are nice. but id rather go to linux if i was going to go to a *nix based system. macs are way to expensive.
and the 64 bit processor has been around a while, and the speed tests that apple produced were loppsided in favor of thier architecture. so its by no means the fastest processor around. |
as long as you don't have the software fully supporting the 64bit architecture, you will be using the 32bit core of the CPU anyway. Ask me if I want a 64bit CPU in ... 3 years.
