Windows Xp Help!!!
Add /remove programs is BLANK!
I dunno what happened to this computer - its one that we let other ppl use - so its geta all kinds of trojans and virus and shit on it. Cleaned it all up but now when I go to "add/remove programs" it says "please wait while the list is being populated" and the list never shows up. Items under "remove Windows components" tab show up all the other tabs too but now add/remove programs It's driving me nuts I need to uninstall a heap of shit on this PC HELP!!!!!!!!! |
I think its time for a new operating system , or at the very least a fresh start:)..
Sounds like a registry problem ..?? |
copy all the important shit to another PC, then Format C:

There might be some kind of registry fix or something, but other than that, yeah, the registry is probably hosed.

edited: cause you aren't on icq - it's one of the symptoms of MBlast virus (yeah the one who some of us already know :) ) check this out - https://www.owlnet.rice.edu/FAQ/cache/365.html |
If you running a stolen copy of xp sometimes when you try to use those core components it will stall out , depending on what version of xp you are using :)

Open your registry and find the keys below to change any of those add/remove features, if not its a good tweak to use anyways.
Create a new DWORD value for each restriction required according to the table below. Set the value to equal "1" to enable the restriction or "0" to disable it. NoAddRemovePrograms - Disable Add/Remove Programs NoRemovePage - Disable Change and Remove Programs NoAddPage - Disable Add Programs NoWindowsSetupPage - Disable Windows Components Wizard NoAddFromCDorFloppy - Hide "Add a program from CD-ROM or disk" option NoAddFromInternet - Hide "Add programs from Microsoft" option NoAddFromNetwork - Hide "Add programs from your network" option NoServices - Go directly to Windows Components Wizard NoSupportInfo - Disable Support Information User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\ Uninstall] System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\ Uninstall] Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: (0 = default, 1 = enable restriction) |
