Gallery mathematics?

Okay...so please correct my math if I am wrong...

If a sponsor converts 1:350 on tgp traffic...and that sponsor pays $30 per signup on average...and the train is moving at 75 miles per hour...how long to get to Las Vegas?

candyflip 09-21-2003 01:20 PM

30 seconds.

ZakAttack 09-21-2003 01:21 PM

not too many trains come through here... definately not any passenger trains. :-)

MuleScrote 09-21-2003 01:24 PM

The train never leaves the station because you don't have any tgp traffic.

Did I win?

B_Maverick 09-21-2003 01:26 PM

lol..pardon my Sunday sense of humor....

seriously..

If a sponsor converts 1:350...and pays $30 per signup...then that gallery needs to produce 1400 hits to the sponsor to make $120.

Now then...buying a gallery spot...for $450...that gallery needs to produce a total of 6650 hits to the sponsor in order to make $120.

Now then...this would all work out just fine so long as the gallery were capable of producing 6650 hits to the sponsor and the sponsor were capable of converting at 1:350.

This would also be an "okay" monthly return...

The question is...is all of this a reasonable scenario? Can it happen this way?

By the way...I mean with absolutely no cheating whatsoever.

Who do I need to pay off to get 1:35?

B_Maverick 09-21-2003 01:39 PM

hmmm...I'm suprised...I would have expected a shitload of responses claiming to be able to convert at better than 1:350

AWS Venus 09-21-2003 01:39 PM

Your theory is good. But it's just a theory.

B_Maverick 09-21-2003 01:42 PM

I also sort of anticipated a lot of slams along the lines of...

"If you can't get 10,000 hits to a sponsor with one gallery, then you should be flipping hamburgers"

Seems to be a lot of those kind of posts.

I did not even figure in the cost of bandwidth...you are correct. I'm trying to use simple numbers.

I assume this is what you are talking about, yes? The added cost of the bandwidth?

Actually...

Pick a rare site/niche that is not over exposed and it WILL do this.

But my experience:

It never EVER does this in the first week, or even the first two weeks of sending traffic.

I have one webmaster that nearly stopped sending traffic because she was disappointed with 1:700 for the first 12 days -
Her ratio then fell steadily over the next four days and has been in the 1:180's range for the last three months, with a high of 1:217 for a period, and a low of 1:143 for a period.

This is all on MGP traffic, submitting to 200+/- MGP`s per day with about 200k gallery views per day and a CTR of 2%.

Needless to say she averages 18 trials a day and three monthly sales per day, plus plenty of rebills.

Sly_RJ 09-21-2003 01:55 PM

I agree with Carlito. When we first started sending traffic to Bang Bros Online my partner was pretty pissed with the conversions. I told him to relax and just watch. After a couple weeks the conversions started to drop, more sales started to trickle in, and a steady flow of traffic continued going to the sponsor. This was using content that's probably already been over-used, a low volume of gallery traffic, and not the greatest gallery templates.

Overall, we're hitting about 5-7 cents a click with this sponsor. I normally wouldn't be happy with that on filtered traffic (I filter everything), but since BBO has a lower payout, it was acceptable. Converting at around 1:400 with shitty galleries, poor traffic, and over-used content. Not too bad.

B_Maverick 09-21-2003 02:01 PM

tsk tsk...I simply cannot understand why everyone thinks I am so impatient..I don't need it all NOW....tomorrow will be just fine :-)

Johny Traffic 09-21-2003 02:05 PM

in my opinion paying for gallery spots etc, is only worth it if you own the site, so you get 100%

I've been told that before. In fact I was told that by a tgp owner who sold me spots.

lol...but I know my galleries are crappy...so the chances of me making a pay site that will sell right now are nil.

Carlito 09-21-2003 02:39 PM

Hey Sly, I think your partner is the one we are building the 'big dildo' site for!

Keep his attention going in the right direction for those first two weeks. :thumbsup
