My solution to saving the planet...

SAN DIEGO, California (AP) -- Fires that destroyed four homes under construction and damaged two others Friday in an upscale section of the city were set in a coordinated arson attack, authorities said.

One of several banners found at the sites in north San Diego read: "Development = destruction. Stop raping nature. The ELFs are angry."

ELF stands for the Earth Liberation Front, a radical environmentalist group that has claimed responsibility for dozens of acts of arson and vandalism, including a $50 million fire that destroyed a residential development in San Diego last month.

Fire Capt. Jeffrey Carle cautioned that the banner doesn't mean the group was involved. He declined to say how the four fires were set but said the method was the same in each one.

The ELF made no claim of responsibility on its Web site for Friday's fires, and its press office did not respond to an e-mail message.

No injuries were reported in the fires, but people were living in homes just a few doors away, and two of the fires were near brush-covered ravines that could have fueled flames, officials said.

"This is clearly an act of domestic terrorism in our city," said Police Chief Bill Lansdowne. The FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms joined the investigation.

The destroyed dwellings were a few miles north of the Aug. 1 fire that leveled a 206-unit complex under construction.

A self-proclaimed ELF member told the Los Angeles Times this week that he helped torch a Hummer dealership near Los Angeles on Aug. 22 and vandalized three other dealerships.

This ELF will probably rake in $100 million come Christmas time:

Certain corporations have it coming to them. It's only a matter of time before mother nature strikes back, be it through "natural disasters" or eco-terrorists.

I love nature just as much as the next guy, I grew up in it. This is no way to get a point across. Though it's a great way to piss off a lot of people, and eventually get arrested. What cause can you fight for in jail?

yeah but unless you have the money and political influence to lobby for change no one is going to hear you or care and nothing will change. what ELF is doing isn't right at all but its sure making ppl take notice.

that's why there are large conservationist organizations such as the sierra club and the audoban society. there's countless more. plus you can always write your congressman.

growing up my dad lead alot of trips for the sierra club around the country. the everglades, the okeefenokee....etc...etc.. they're great groups dedicated to conservation and education.

Yeah, I just spent two days in a very remote area that I camp when I find time, took my GF there for the first time this weekend.

I agree with Environmental protection, but not Environmental RIGHTS.

There are areas that they had logged and replanted the promised seven trees per tree and such, the areas look fantastic really.

Just a great deal all around.

Furious_Female 09-21-2003 03:27 PM

If these radical enviromentalists put half of their energy into replanting trees, they would make a bigger difference. I am all for saving the enviroment and anti-pollution, but it seems to me, these people just want to use enviromental issues as an excuse to commit crimes. Like preachers that steal in the name of the Lord.

If you think these "environmental agencies" don't have money you must be smoking some real good shit. Every special interest group has money, how they put that money to use is up to them. It would be no surprise to me if the main founders and organizers of these organizations are sitting in a huge beautiful mansion on a private lake somewhere, neighbor to some of their biggest "enemies".

Special interest groups are a fucking joke.

Yeah. FUCK Special Interest groups & the people involved.

Although, there are Special Interest groups that are not totally whacko.

Audubon Society has oil wells on their protected property.
NRA promotes gun saftey
The list goes on and on, all comes down to the stupid ass management of these groups.
