13,500 ft, 130mph, 60 seconds of freedom

I did it! This morning I skydove with my girlfriend in Xenia, OH. Starting at over 13k feet, I jumped tied to my instructor into what I would describe the thrill of my life. After 60 seconds and reaching speeds of over 120mph, he pulled the rope and we glided down towards the ground for like 8 more minutes.

Awesome! I even got to control the parachute for a few minutes. That thing is amazingly controllable and easy to fly. I would recommend this to ANYONE who has the cojones!

I even got a video, I'll transfer it to MPEG once I find the time. :winkwink:

I agree with ya there I have yet to try skydiving, but am saving up the $$$'s to take it up for a prolonged period..

Paragliding I have to suggest also, climbing up a mountain then running off the edge of it is a great thrill ^_^

It was $165, but we got 20 bucks off for being affiliated with Ohio State.

The 'class' as you call it was simply a 5 minute introduction about how things work and how to behave on the exit from the airplane. The landing was explained during the gliding period. It was easy as 1-2-3. No hassle, no wait. I guess it also depends on where you jump. Maybe they require some longer course somewhere else.

me and a few friends are organising this ASAP.

how do you feel in the plane before jump? :1orglaugh

I felt surprisingly confident. I wasn't even nervous. When standing on the step out of the plane, my heart started flying, but overall I wasn't too scared. But my girlfriend was freakin out. :1orglaugh

Sheeeeiiit!!! If that was the thrill of you life try doing it carrying ammo and weapons and with dudes shootin' at you and bombs goin' off!

On the other side, do it with a snowboard, while tossing frisbees, balsa wood planes...

Just hope to not hit a piece of floating ice while in freefall. At 120mph that sumbitch can HURT!

The weather was amazing good. Last night it was still windy and cloudy, but this morning there was not ONE cloud in the sky.

well, if you have the time to skydive, you have the time to make it a video :)

C_U_Next_Tuesday 09-20-2003 02:14 PM

cool.. hubby wants me to try it once.. but i dont think i would be too keen on jumping. He was a jumpmaster in the Marines, and loves it

I think Greg was referring to jumping out of the planes while in combat...skydiving is a regualr part of military operations.

Ahhh gotcha. Yeah... the jump was thrill enough, even without flak trying to make a suisse cheese out of my ass.
