Paypal Forces Ebay Users To Only Advertise Paypal As Payment Option!

You got to be fucking shitting me. I just got the following email from PayPal:

Quote:

Starting on September 25, 2003, there will be two new requirements to receive 1.5% cashback on PayPal ATM/Debit Card purchases. The new requirements are as follows: Maintain an active PayPal Premier or Business account. Have the PayPal Preferred on eBay preference turned on. You can do this by clicking on the Auctions link from PayPal's Profile tab or, at the end of September from your payment preferences within My eBay. PayPal Preferred on eBay is a new feature that will be available to eBay Sellers at the end of September. This feature gives eBay sellers the ability to indicate to their buyers that they prefer PayPal. Buyers will see on the eBay View Item page and on the eBay Choose Payment Method page that participating sellers prefer PayPal. As a current PayPal Preferred Debit Card holder, the PayPal Preferred on eBay preference will be turned on automatically at the end of September to ensure your cashback is not interrupted. If you want to turn this preference off, you can do so from PayPal's Profile tab or from your payment preferences page in My eBay by logging in after September 26. Turning off the preference will remove you from participation in the 1.5% cashback program. The requirements for receiving 1.5% cashback after September 25 are as follows: Obtain and activate a PayPal MasterCard ATM/Debit Card. List at least one item on eBay every three weeks, and have a valid eBay user ID and password registered with PayPal. Make sure PayPal is the only online payment option you advertise in your eBay listings. Maintain an active PayPal Premier or Business account. Have the PayPal Preferred on eBay preference turned on. You can do this by clicking on the Auctions link from PayPal's Profile tab or, at the end of September from your payment preferences within My eBay. Sellers who do not meet these new and existing requirements will be disqualified from receiving 1.5% cashback on purchases. Disqualified users may re-qualify by meeting all of the eligibility requirements. Thank you for using PayPal, The PayPal Team

My question now, is this legal. I mean first Ebay bought PayPal and now they are forcing/threatning PayPal Debit Card users to only advertise PayPal on Ebay auctions.

Isn't their some kind of regulatory goverment office where PayPal users can report this to?

I'm not sure Ebay would have been allowed to buy PayPal if this had been known!

dougeetx 09-20-2003 07:48 AM

This is sooo jacked up!

TheSaint 09-20-2003 07:49 AM

Uh, isn't that just to get the 1.5% cashback deal?

AdultSite-Review 09-20-2003 07:53 AM

Yes, you're right, is just to get the 1.5% cashback deal.

But still it stinks of monopoly and Class-Action Lawsuit.

evildick 09-20-2003 08:01 AM

I think you still have the option of other payment methods, but the listings just say "Paypal preferred", (if you want the cashback.)

oberheimer 09-20-2003 08:20 AM

I donīt think this is legal at all. Microsoft have monopoly and now paypal wantīs to erase all there competitors.

Go Fuck Them :ak47:

AdultSite-Review 09-20-2003 08:29 AM

Yes you can accept other payments, as long as it's not online!!!

Paypal fuckin sucks ass. I use them on a few of my non adult sites and was trying to get their IPN and Password Management script running. I have it on another machine and took me 10 minutes. It wasn't working on this machine and their tech support had me running in circles.... I won't go into the whole story but man was I pissed. :feels-hot :feels-hot :feels-hot

Well of course they want to erase all of their competitors. I would be happy if I got rid of all of my competition. It would be great if I had the only adult business on the internet.

This isn't a monoplistic action from eBay/PayPal. You can still use other forms of payment. eBay isn't the only auction site on the internet either. They aren't forcing you to only use PayPal. There are just saying if you want the cashback, to only use PayPal.

PimpMeNot 09-20-2003 09:07 AM

So?????
eBay now owns PayPal.
PayPal will give you 1.5% cash back on all your purchase made with your PayPal Mastercard which are done as credit card purchase. That can amount to a free dinner once a month if you are an active user ($89 on average per month for me).
In exchange they want you to use them exclusively as payment option for eBay sales. Not a big deal.
What do you want? The 1.5% and a tranny blowjob.
It surprises me that on a board like that in an industry where the $$$$ rules, you have communist thinking economists.
Money rules, if you don't like it, then move to the Amazon Jungle and start a tree huggers community where there is no money and lots of mosquitoes.

Mr Pheer 09-20-2003 09:07 AM

you do realize that you are bitching about 1.5% right?

seems like a small amount to be upset about

Doctor Dre 09-20-2003 09:43 AM

Bottom of the line

FUCK PAYPAL

iroc409 09-20-2003 09:46 AM

How is that?

Would Visa pay you rewards for every dollar you spend using your American Express?

You are not reading the statement correctly.

That is only to receive the 1.5% cash back...it's not a blanket rule for ALL auctions, just a stipulation if you want to participate in the 1.5% cash back program...sheesh...read the fucking thing.

AdultSite-Review 09-20-2003 11:40 AM

I know it's just to receive the 1.5% cashback.

Bad analogy, I don't use another card to get my 1.5% cashback, I use the PayPal card.

Sure I can survive without the 1.5% cashback, It's just the principle, I think it's wrong.

Do you guys/gals know if there is any restrcitions on the Discover card, in order to obtain the 2% cashback, besides using the CARD OFF COURSE STUPID!!!
