:2 cents: The Linksys system I installed in our house is easy and was much less effort than running cables. We do seem to get weak signals at the other end of the house though.
Also, one of the PC's was older and there were no suitable drivers available for the card with the antenna (I still have to run that cable, yuk, and of course it is at the far end of the house). Yes, you can cable directly from the router to your PC's!:2 cents: Good luck with it! :thumbsup |
Wireless Router
My room mate just got his new PC and wants to hook up to the DSL connection as well. I've always done a simple 4-port Linksys router and run a cable to the PC.
Is wireless routing worthwhile? I've noticed that the prices are fairly inexpensive now. What's the device on his end that receives the signal? Just some kind of receiver that then plugs into the NIC? Also, is it possible to plug into the router if you desire (and not go wirless)? I'm about 2 feet from it, and would just prefer a hard connection over wireless, if possible. Any suggestions? Worth going to? Any models that you recommend? |
I just setup a wireless router at my friends house. Its so damn simple. Install the software on the computer(s) plug in the router and wireless(s) cards into your labtop or desktop. Bam! Your connected. If the connection is low just get a Booster for the router. You will be enjoying your internet in no time. :thumbsup

wireless router rocks
I got the new Linksys, does 54mbps... and the cool thing is now I have computers in several rooms of the house, and even out by the pool, and no network cables to worry about. I can even take my laptop out to the garage when I'm working on bikes and still be able to check my stats :) |
