Copy right? please help

Hi,

I have an idea (not in the adult biz) that I would like to put on the net. It requires a software that I am developing right now.
Before I go live and represent to the world, I would like to copy right this idea...how do I go about it? How expensive and how long does it take to do so?

Thanks for the help

get a black magic marker, go in front of a mirror and draw a big letter C on your forehead, then draw a circle around the 'C'.
Ok so now everything inside your head, all your ideas are protected by the C in a circle copyright sign. DON'T wash it off!!!
If you do, your ideas inside your head will no longer by your intellectual copyright.

you can't copyright an idea.

nobody copyrighted their idea. You can't copyright an idea. If you write & publish software, you can copyright the software. If it's unique enough, you may be able to get a patent. If you have trade names associated with it, you can get trademarks for those.

but you can't now and never will be able to copyright an idea.

thanks for the input.

most works of the type you're describing will fall under normal copyright, which means it needs to first be written, and then published. There are ways to make a legal publishing without the whole world knowing about the software. Then you can file for a formal copyright.

If you're serious about all this.... really serious, and not just a passing thought type thing, my strongest advice to you would be to consult an attorney on this and make sure it's done right. You can file for a formal copyright by yourself, it's not hard. But if you know this is something that will be hugely profitable to you, don't screw around. Get legal help & advice.

How do I file it myself? Is there a site? something I can read and follow instructions on how to do so?

It sounds like you are thinking more along the lines of Patents and Trademarks.

Hey Stud Money,

Thanks...I have some homework to do now.

hope that helps Morphius....

by the way, also, I've used LegalZoom in the past for taking care of some legal paperwork filing type stuff. They're a good company. They always do the stuff right, and very timely. Sometimes stuff takes a while to go through the filing process, but that's not anything they have control over. So, just sharing that my experience with them has been nothing but positive.
