What is the job of an affiliate rep?
I just finished talking to a guy who contacted me a couple weeks ago looking for some tips and advice. He was building galleries at the time and nobody was listing him. His galleries were pretty terrible, so I pointed him in the right direction to get some good galleries.
Anyway, he's looking for some more business contacts and people to share ideas with, pick their brains, ask questions, etc. So I tell him to talk with his affiliate reps. It's their job to help him sell their sites better, right? He replies, telling me that he has contacted some of his affiliate reps... they basically blew him off and ignored him. I find that... shitty. Is it not an affiliate reps job to help people out? Of course they aren't going to hold hands, but a little tip or an arrow pointing to the right direction should be expected, shouldn't it? Or am I just expecting too much? |
what do you mean by affiliate rep???
|
yeah thats their job, their loss if they dont help someone.

Basically, what you have is a bunch of juviniles that are afraid of a little competition.
Why would they want to help somone who may or may not take a sale away from them? Especially when half of them are not making that much or really know what they are doing. You can send them my way... I am not the best at this but I am willing to help :thumbsup |
I was promised some help many times, but all I got was braindead bullshit advice.
me - Your site is not converting with my TGP submissions, everything else converts nicely, can you help? rep - Try submitting to other TGPs. me - But these are the good ones, and I have partner accounts, and everything else is converting. rep - Try different sources of traffic, submitt to other TGPs. me - Ok, cya. |
Oh, I get it... you mean the person the sponsor assigns to help the affiliate... not getting help from other affiliates them selves.
I had the same thing happen with one of my sponsors.... I asked for help on their board, and their affiliate Rep responded with something other than advice. More like why are you bothering is the feeling I got from their response. When I replied to their response... I got a very nasty ICQ from the programs owner saying that I better not talk to their employees like that again.... Honestly... I never said anything bad in my response.... just one little WTF...spelled just like that. But yes, I do not understand why they are like this... Afterall, as an affiliate we are trying to make sales for them as well as ourselfes... you would think they would be more than happy to help. |

So basically... if I'm reading this correctly, most of us are agreeing that most affiliate reps are being paid to sit, look cute, and cater to the larger accounts, because basically they don't need help or tips.
Haha, that's what I thought. I get a little ticked off when I find that my affiliate rep has no idea how to build sites and has never personally sent their program traffic. It's bull shit, IMO. It makes the "affiliate rep" virtually worthless. Sure, they can give me banners, galleries, etc... but if they personally don't know how to sell a coat to an eskimo, what's the point? However, the smaller programs usually have great affiliate support because the owner is usually behind it. Those guys bust their ass and deserve a little credit. I give detoxed from Dating Gold a lot of shit, but the guy moves to get shit done. An example of a good affiliate rep... |
A lot of affiliate reps are useless. There are a lot of companies that hire affiliate reps that have NEVER made an adult page in their lives. I have helped and explained basic terms to affiliate reps for some fairly large sponsors. The people who would make the best reps are the ones that are too busy with their own sites.

Tell him to join datinggold and contact me :)
edit: just saw my name mentioned above :) |
How about help increasing rebills?
Oh wait, that is the site's problem :D Sorry, a little jaded lately. I need a new program, something with exclusive hardcore content for galleries. What is recurring for you guys? Spam me. |
This is an interesting question. I remember when I got started out it seemed like not too many people were willing to help out. The ones who did help out haven't been forgotten.
Depending on the size of the company, effort is being put in the direction that will bring the most results. How much time and effort is a sales rep supposed to put in to someone who will make them less than $20 a month? Sales reps don't have time to be teaching someone new how to build webpages and how to submit galleries. We have a pretty good solution for this problem - Her name is Louisa. She handles all of our webmasters, and she's a smart cookie too. At the same time most everyone in the company, including Tanker, Lightspeed, Zebra, and myself - back her up and are always willing to help out. If your not getting the support you need from a certain company, replace them. It's that easy. |
If i had a affilate program i would only hire beautiful girls as sales reps and have them post on the boards all day. I bet guys would just send traffic to impress the girls proably even signing up for a membership themselves lol

Well, I will never ever claim that I am traffic queen. Niche, maybe, but my traffic skills suck :-)
Tofu at adultplatinum has been actually the only affiliate rep that ive talked with. Hes helped me out, given me great suggestions on how to sell the sites, etc. Great hire, Lens! Angel at Loverscash has been great as well, though I havent pushed the program yet. There for me to answer any of my questions, always willing to help out. So, I recommend her as well :-) |

I try to help out all i can.
Some people ask alot of questions..some people ask very few. working with someone can yield terrific results...i try to help where i can....i will take a look at what they are doing to promote..and sometimes i will offer advice which helps. It is true that by nature we tend to organize our days into helping those who help us make money....i am online however 14-16 hours perday..on and off..so help is always available. |

On a more serious note.... If you need to improve your traffic, the best bet is to hit affiliates up during working hours at the office so we can do a proper review. (I don't just give my personal opinion, I bounce it off others here at the office and offer a collective one). It can get confusing with the time differences, but if it is at night, or on the weekends--we aren't always on line....or take this weekend for example with me. I was on and offline all weekend making sure there were no emergencies and very sick with the flu..... so I was NOT working at 100% . I have accidentally left ICQ running after I went to bed and woke up to messages sent while I was N/A at 4:00am on a weekday screaming at me because I didn't answer back. :helpme |

if somoene is polite and intelligent..i will spend all day talking to them..and helping them out. keyword :intellligent I have a few webmasters who started with less then a sale a day....and are now at 1-2 a day steady..not much..but it is a big change for them...that is fine with me....not every account has to send 10 a day or 20 a day to get my attention. |
I totally agree that one of the responsibilities of running a program is to be there for your affiliates. I spend a lot of time on ICQ, the phone and e-mail working with the smallest of affiliates sending maybe only a few sales a pay period. I would rather have 1000's of small guys than one big guy. If I loose that big guy I am screwed
I think if a company is going to hire female sales reps they should in the very least make them have sex with there affiliates. That is why I hired my sister and why she will be attending all the future shows ! |
i help each and every one of the affiliates for www.mixbucks.com
no, I do not know the cure for sexual impotency |
I think it's very important to help all of your webmasters.. big accounts, small accounts.. no matter..
I've been known to hold hand as well however .... |
I'm gonna put in a plug here for Mike at Stiffycash
My galleries weren't converting like they were at other sponsors. He gave me a couple of suggestions and my daily sales tripled in 4 days. Then I got the chance to meet him in Miami. Super guy. :thumbsup |
Back when I started in the biz, there were very few if ANY account reps
There were only a couple of boards too, so basically it was a sink or swim world If a sponsor is going to bother to hire an affiliate rep - the least they can do is get someone that knows the business. I'm all for them having a failsafe system that allows the affiliates to contact someone higher up in the chain to report the good OR bad assistance they've gotten. I don't think any reputable sponsor wants to send a paycheck out to a rep that never does their job. bad reps = potential earnings loss + overhead loss from paying them salary :2 cents: |
