Permanent visa to USA

How long does the process last? Anyone know. Should I apply now, if I plan to move in 2 years? What are the requirements.

The site http://www.insservice.org/ is no good on giving info.

I really don't feel like joining the greencard lottery, are there other legit ways to move in and 'start' a business?

directfiesta 09-14-2003 09:54 AM

Tell them you will employ many people for your ADULT business....

LOL... that should help.

Jokes aside, I think it takes many many years.

A way around it: marry an american.

BVF 09-14-2003 09:55 AM

Luckily for you, your country is under the visa waiver program...you can always just show up for six months and while you're here, go for your green card...Then all you have to do is take a trip to canada every six months and then return for another six....

It will take awhile to get a green card but since you're from finland, it won't be as hard as folks from other countries

RhondaG 09-14-2003 10:03 AM

Even if you had an immediate family member that was a U.S. citizen, it would take a long time! The easiest way is to marry an american and that wasn't so easy. I married a Canadian and he immigrated here.

Best thing to do is read through the WHOLE INS site to see what you "may" qualify for and how long it will take. Either way start the process now.

See if applying for the greencard lottery will hurt your chances on immigrating any other way and if not, apply for it!

And never tell them you are in the adult biz lol

Why is it so damn complicated. Bastards. I'll just move to spain.

Rocky 09-14-2003 10:15 AM

:(

my cousin moved from Toronto to Portland to work as a shoe designer for Addidas (moved on to work for Nike and most recently Columbia Outfitters) seven years ago and is still waiting for her green card

Hey, If you have any kind of arrest in your background, you can basically forget it. They are as they say " Cleaning up the US " which translates to violating a lot of peoples civil rights. They are also not allowing a lot of people into the country for really small shit.

If you do actually make it, dont forget that in this country double jeopardy is ok as long as it is done under that patriot act. And that act deals a lot with people that have green cards.

Good luck.

Fletch XXX 09-14-2003 11:02 AM

great all we need more immigrants

hahaha

kidding man, no clue how long it takes always been a US citizen homie.

:winkwink:

swedguy 09-14-2003 11:03 AM

I got booted out of the country because my lawyers fucked up with my H1-B #¤%&/.
In the beginning I used the visa waiver thing. If you want the 6 month visa, you need to call the embassy.
When I applied for my second 6 mo visa they grilled me for 20 minutes or so.
"What buses did you use when you went from that city to that city?"
"What rental company did you use when you went to Oregon?"
"What hotel did you stay at?"

Lots of fucked up questions :)

When they were applying for my visa I studied up on all other visa, just in case.

Get married is a pretty safe bet, if you have known the girl for a while.

E-2 investor visa if you have a lot of money.
J-1 is an exchange student/worker visa, but I think it's limited to 1.5 years. http://www.amscan.org/ they can apply for you.
H2-B seasonal worker....in case you want to work with them Mexicans picking Oranges :winkwink:

If you know someone that owns a magazine/newspaper or something like that. They can "hire" you and apply for an I-visa, it's for reporters. That way you can stay in the country for up to 5 years at a time.
A friend of mine lives in New York, and it works like a charm for her.

If I come up with anything else, I'll let you know :)

swedguy, whats your icq#?

EscortBiz 09-14-2003 11:16 AM

im selling my visa

TheSaint 09-14-2003 11:32 AM

If you have cash, you can get an immediate Visa. I have a few friends that just moved here with no wait.

They just demonstrated that they were opening a business and hired a few people, instant green card.

I doubt adult qualifies though.:1orglaugh

beemk 09-14-2003 11:45 AM

I cant believe you want to move to the fucking U.S. I cant see absolutely no advantage in that country. Maybe if you were borne there but if I wanted to leave my own country I would choose something more attractive. Even the climate in the U.S. sucks, you may choose between very cold winters (in the north), hurricanes (on the Carribean) and earthquakes (in the west). And even most Americans have realized that their president is the biggest asshole in history.

I want warm climate. I never ever want to see snow.
I want to import my dog without guaranteen.
I want less than 60% taxing percetage.
I want people who understand english.
I want relatively cheap rent (under 1000$ for a nice pad)
I want relatively cheap prices on everything

Please share if you know a better solution.

mastamindz 09-14-2003 01:51 PM

Spain rocks man!! Come here, and make sure you come to Barcelona, or a town close to here, it's the best!
The porn laws here are very non existent, everything goes, you don't need a visa, low taxes, nice weather 10 months a year. Only thing is you need to speak Spanish (actually you can get away with not speaking it, but it's much harder that way).

Besides, if you go to America there's about 65% chance that you will get shot...

I've been considering it.
What kinda rents can I expect from a 2 bedroom aparment, preferably air-conditioned?
Can I have pets in apartment buildings?

I know about the language difficulties, I've been to spain a dozen times. I speak pretty fluent french, so I should learn spanish pretty easily if I put my mind to it for a while. :)

Come to the WestCoast bro. Southern California.

You can drive an hour one way and surf, or an hour the other way and snowboard or you can stay your ass put and just enjoy the sunshine and the cold beer and herbs.

My estimated time of graduation is may 2005, after that I'll move somewhere. I have to start making arrangements soon, depending where I decide to go. Visa shit sucks ass.

Panama. I have been there and I must say it's one of the best countries for expatriates. It's alsways warm (some rainfall though), very cheap (we had a simple dinner for two in the mountains for $3 ... for the 2 of us) and taxes for foreign revenues are non-existant.
If you plan to live outside Panama City you have to learn Spanish though. Rents in Panama City are much higher than in the rest of the country and you may not swim at the beach due to the water pollution.

Totally agree!! Anyplace is better than the "civilized world"! :)

I just came out of a rainforest tonight where we sat and watched monkeys and other critters gathering around to "inspect" us - gotta say that is a damned lot better to experience than a load of humans! :)

By the way.. another place is Costa Rica - No taxes, laid back, nice climate and genuinely "free".

TzarJorge 09-14-2003 10:10 PM

Málaga or Granada
both in Spain.
Otherwise, New Zealand... AMAZING place

CR is already more "civilized" and more expensive than PA. Also local people in PA seem to be even more friendly than their neighbors. You really feel being welcome ... and it's not that good-morning-sir-how-are-you-today artificial friendliness like in Europe or North America.

MetaMan 09-14-2003 11:21 PM

you are looking at least a wait of 6 years, and i mean at least, the system is all bugged up, when you do things legally you are put last,

dont expect a green card anytime soon. unless of course u marry a citizen.
