Gun Control

What's your position on gun control?

I found a really funny website from a thread on another board: www.goodbyeguns.org/

The link about gun myths is especially funny because none of the real statistics are there and refuted.

New York City is the best statistical report. Handguns are banned. The only way to get a legal permit to carry is by the govenors signature (or so I understand), or to be employed by a police agency, military or security.

Still yet, the criminals find ways to get guns and kill people. The crime rate in New York is amazing, despite the fact it's illegal to carry a gun.

Since the criminals get the guns anyway, doesn't it make more sense to let the victims carry guns? Wouldn't that make the gun toting criminal think twice? IF they no longer had the upper hand, wouldn't crime have to go down?

In Texas if you try to mug a cowboy...it'd better have coffee in it.

In '94 I belive it was, they banned assault rifles...today there are still over 4 million of them out there.

Prohibition didn't work for alcohol either.

You're 60% more likely to be shot if your are part of a gang.

The *NUMBER ONE* cause of children's
deaths in the home is guns.

is that true?

katman 09-14-2003 02:08 AM

I think I heard that too.

'When you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them'

I am against radical gun control.

zzgundamnzz 09-14-2003 02:15 AM

Even if all guns were illegal the criminals would still have guns. Making guns illegal is just making the normal law abiding citizens into defensless sheep.

Dont know the exact law, but Im pretty sure they only banned certain things about these guns. No automatic fire, certain flash suppresors, and other things 'qualify' a gun as an assault rifle. And Im pretty sure pre-ban guns (i.e. automatics that would be illegal to sell new now) can still be bought and sold legally.

By the way, for anyone that hasnt bought a gun...its laughably easy. i enjoy shooting, so last year I bought myself an AK-47, and several days ago I bought a shotgun. Both times, I paid in cash and was in and out of the store with the gun in less than 30 minutes. Im totally against gun control - but even I think that this was all too easy.

82 million in germany
about 291 million in the united states.

so the US has 3.5 times as many...which, by comparison, would put germany at 223 homicide with the same population.

So you now have:
Germany - 223
United States - 11,200

That better? :)

Oh really? Then explain these New York crime stats straight from the DOJ crime stats:

1990: 2,605 murders; 212,458 total violent crimes.

1999: 903 murders; 107,147 total violent crimes.

There was a shooting here in Carbondale just last week.

Per capita we have more gun murders than anyone else. Increase their population to ours and they still have a lot less than we do.

It's not the wetbacks that are killing people you stupid ass.

Those stats prove that we are killing each other more so than any other nation in the world.
