Apartments In LA...
Time for me to re-locate
Curious if anyone can tell me a reasonable area to start looking for apartments? I hear Silver Lake is a hot spot but I really have no Idea. Thanks |
Are you moving from somewhere outside of Los Angeles?
|
SilverLake is very nice - I lived there when I first moved to LA back in 99'.
Would be a great place to live while you learning your way around. Dean* |
Los Angeles is a big city. The valley pretty much sucks - but apartments aren't as expensive as in Silver Lake, Hollywood or Los Feliz. However, those are the coolest places to live. If you choose Hollywood, try to stay west of Highland Ave. And don't go too far east of Silver Lake or you will end up in Echo Park.
Most newer apartments (read: A/C, amenities, gated entry & parking, elevators, ect.) are priced between $800-1350 for a one bedroom and $1050-2000 for a two bedroom. If you are into older buildings (read: hardwood floors, no A/C, "old world charm") the prices are lower. Good sources for rental listings are Craig's List (www.craigslist.com) or the Recycler (www.recycler.com) Good Luck! :) |
I had a one bedroom in Hollywood for 3.5 years that ran $875 per month. Hollywood is noisy, congested and dirty...but living there is kinda magical. I enjoyed it but I'm not sure if I would live there again :)

I've spent time in long beach and a few other areas but I'm looking at hollywood for now.
Thanks for the tips... |
Los Feliz is amazing. I lived there for 6 years and miss it. Try www.westsiderentals.com they have the best listings
|
$875 a month is a pretty good deal for a one bedroom. Was it a pretty nice place?
I know in the valley, for that price, you won't find anything in a good neighborhood. |
Huntington Beach - Party City, but it's in orange county...kicks ass tho!

Los Angeles???
LA eats aardvark ass! Food sucks, the women put on makeup like blind costa ricans, no parking, every 8 out of 10 people aren't even supposed to be here, rare few read or speak english and there's helicopters night and fucking day. I'm splitting LA soon and won't EVEN be lookin' back. If you like shitty air, dumb legislators, asswipe politicians and cops who don't give a shit til they see you walking with a half way decent looking blonde, then by all means make a bee-fucking-line to L.A. Hey, that sounds like a 'thrash' song... lemme get to the keyboards... |

This is true - but I think most people have a love/hate relationship with this city. The cops suck, the air sucks, the traffic sucks, the parking sucks, the laws suck - but the weather is beautiful - and it is great to wake up every morning, look outside and see the Hollywood Hills. And everything that happens - happens here - or in NYC. |

california is something that everyone wants to experience, but then after a few years want to get the hell out. Been there done that. Super high rent, high sales tax and state income tax, high dmv fees, high gas. Even fast food places are more expensive there.
The frusterating part about california is anywhere on the coast is super expensive where you go. To get cheaper you have to live in a shithole like bakersfield or way in the desert or something, and then its like whats the point of being in california. |

Yes, I've been in atlanta for 6 years... |
Culver City is nice and really close to the action. What sort of budget do you have?
|
I was just thinking the same thing. I wanted to move some where warm for the winter.
But after thinking ( not too long ) I can go some where that is a lot warmer .... a lot cheaper ...... and a lot cooler ! I really do not want to deal with traffic .. I do not want to deal with rude people ... I do not want to deal with stuck up woman ! I lived a year in Rio de Janerio and I think that is the best place for me this winter. I can shoot like crazy and the girls are hot as hell ! I may visit LA , but I have decided I do not want to live there ! |

I lived in Atlanta before I came to LA. Lived there for a year and half. Longest year and half of my life. Los Angeles is the promised land. I can see the Hollywood sign from my balcony. |
Oh yeah, and West Side Rentals is a pretty good resource for finding an apt if that is what you are looking for. Might just want to come out and drive around with a cell phone too.
