What do you think of sponsors that spam and sell their affiliates' email addresses?

I started to receive porn spam from a sponsor that I joined as an affiliate to [email protected]. It's an address that has been used nowhere else. Shame too, I was planning to send traffic - now I won't bother.

Usually I'd delete this shit and move on, but I was curious as to what you guys thought of sponsors that spam their webmasters?

Like if you signed up for my program, and I sold/spammed your contact information, would you care, or not?

It did cross my mind to contact the sponsor, but this needs no explanation... it's all very clear.

i wouldnt promote them

Babaganoosh 09-12-2003 08:32 AM

I got the same email plus a couple more. The email I used is one that I only give to sponsors ([email protected]). Unfortunately I can't figure out who sold it since probably 20 sponsors have that addy. Care to share so I know who to be pissed at?

i've had a fair number of sponsors sell my email address or send spam to it. pretty sad, imo. it sure doesn't leave me with a good feeling about them!

Funny how they all swear that you addy will not be sold, traded,etc......That is why I have a hotmail addy as well, let them spam away:1orglaugh

I don't think TripleXCash would be stupid enough to spam their own affiliates. I am guessing someone jacked their list or something.

okny 09-12-2003 08:50 AM

Well it all depends on what they are spamming, if you signed to a sponsor and then you get an email from them about their sites you could either call that spam or a way of them showing you what they have.

As for the "informative" :1orglaugh :1orglaugh emails, I couldn't give a shit about those.

Untrue. E.g, I use a unique code for most sponsors (although not all - case point above) and match them up in a txt file, such as [email protected] for top bucks, [email protected] for oxcash, etc... these can't be filtered out like [email protected] can be, yet I never receive a thing other than "informative" emails.

Most sponsors never, ever sell/spam addresses with general junk (porn/pills/loans/diplomas etc).

InsaneGreen 09-12-2003 09:07 AM

i got the same spams today. except they changed [email protected] to [email protected]

fuckers

did u signup using the programs AFFILIATE program or through say a affilaite program through processor such as psw / ccbill etc....

ldinternet 09-12-2003 09:11 AM

To the affiliate program - e.g, GFY Cash, using their affiliate software, e.g, iDevAffiliate or MPA2

NOT through a third party processor.

ldinternet 09-12-2003 11:49 AM

Strife 09-12-2003 11:56 AM

pretty sad spamming webmasters.

Jak 09-12-2003 11:58 AM

From an idea I found here, whenever I sign up to a new sponsor I use their domain name as the e-mail address, like this:

[email protected]

:thumbsup

Looks like a lot of people do that (i do the same) I also do it to test the level of spam they send to the people who do "half signup" on their paysites.

....I had to close a few of those ;)
