When you first started in adult how long did it take for you to make a profit?

Also, do you think given todays market climate in the industry it takes longer to see a good R.O.I than it dd when you started out?

I think i made a profit somewhere around 3 months of starting in the biz and, i would say that it does take a lot longer time to see good returns for investment today.

What do the rest of you guys think?

5 years ago, it was pretty easy to make a profit on day 1. Happened to me as well, without even trying or anything.
I just put up a page with what I considered some good porn, and a banner just for the hell of it. Worked out magnificently :glugglug

Today... too many porn sites, too much free porn on tgps are making it harder for the new guys like me.

You do *not* need to invest money to make money in this biz. Sure, it helps (buying your own content, etc) but it is *not* necessary.

And not everyone is out to start their own paysite right out of the gate. As a matter of fact, if that's the first thing you do, we'll be watching for your "site for sale" thread in a few months.

Depends on how you count it.

I invested around $35,000 (mostly shooting content) for my first pay site. I was 3 months shooting before I opened the site. I would say it took about 2 months to really take off so all told about 5 months before I started making a nice profit. This was recently, after the so called "hard times" were already here.

IMO its like any business. If you have a good idea and execute it well, you'll make money quickly, especially with a pay site. If you use a lot of tired ideas and old sponsers it might take forever.

Back when I started 4 years ago I broke some "rules" but I invested nothing, and made sales very quickly. Had I known then what I know now I would be rich, but learning has been half the fun.

1 month then again 12 yrs ago you could start a dailer site here in holland put $50 worth of content on it and get $5k a month cause there were only like 10 sites in holland then...

Umm.. It took me like 2 days. (Persiankitty dared to spend 2 days before approving my first site). 0 investment.

About 3 years ago I did fairly well with an adult dating site...but since then, AOL and MSN have cracked down hard on profiles, so I stopped doing that.

Since getting into mainstream porn it's been a lot more difficult to make a profit. I've been promoting porn for about a year and learning a lot...someday it should pay off.

Instant profit is easy if you start small, with virtually no expenses. Since I started in this as a hobby, I thought of the first dollar I got as profit. The investment was tiny (domain, hosting) and I looked as it as the expense for a hobby I enjoyed, not a business investment.

Zero $$ investment.. made money in probably the first 3 days. Got a signup and got hooked.

never surfed the net for porn before I started, invested quite a bit, hired an idiot, fired an idiot, for the next 6 months worked my ass off 18hrs/day and after about 6 month started to see it's turning around :smokin

These days, a newbie should expect the 0 to disappear from their stats within 2-4 days. Reasonable, I think.

Ok... unless you use hosted galleries.. you still have to invest in a domain name and hosting... so say 8.95 for the domain.. 10 for the hosting... 20.00... in 20 min?.. an hour? maybe a day... but still...

I mean some tgp's don't even list you for a day.....

I had a site with only 8 pictures on it. 4 new ones and yesterdays 4 old ones.

I think it took about 2 1/2 days. About 6 or 7 years ago we licensed some live naked guy software from a studio in las vegas. They did women too.

I think the studio was virtual dreams? If anybody remembers. Fuck I wish I could find that contract. As soon as we hit the search engines the money was flowing in. They had to download the software, set it up, it would dial in and charge them like 5.99 a minute.
