What Avid software do I want? I went to their website, and all I saw was their 'home user / pro' package for $1,600.00

What the fuck? I think this is some low end just good enough for the home user that thinks he's pro. Fuck that!

I want the $50,000 version. But what is it called? Their website doesn't mention it all, and all the searched I did lead to the Avid Express Pro version which sounds like a home user product.

So... what is the high-end, super expensive, version called?

My buddy sits on that system. Last tiome I was in his editing suite he had 2 of the AVID editing machines. He edits video for a careeer though.

Ill call him tomorrow and ask him what he uses exactly ;)

Media Composer or Symphony.

Express DV

Wrong. Express DV is the $1600 one he doesn't want to buy.

Avid Xpress (not Express DV), is a much higher step up in Avid, I believe they go for about $35K.

Next up is the Media Composer...around $50K-$75K.

And the granddaddy of them all, the big motherfucker, is the Avid Symphony. These things are north of $100K.

Vegas Video 4 is all I use for porn and I feel like I can do just about anything I want to in it, (see CFF trailers for reference).

I want Avid so I can cut some promo content for our sites. 10 second clips and some 20 or 30 second clips would be great. I hear Avid is the best for little shit like that.

Last time I looked at them the turn key systems were around $17,000.00US. That included the hardware as well. You should call them directly and tell them what you are looking to do. They will send you a nice little promo package with everything broken down and additionals items and plugins to consider.

I couldn't imagine what else a more expensive package could contain other than upgraded hardware. The version we were looking at was a laptop.

Hey RedShoe - I am learning Vegas 4 now - it's a sweet little program for sure. Would love to see some stuff you've done with it :winkwink:

Any non-linear editing program can be used to edit short promo clips. I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit 30-second trailers for reality episodes with graphics and music almost every day and also longer videos and even full length movies for tv broadcast.
