popup blockers and exit traffic

Out of curiosity, I set up a system to track how many surfers were NOT seeing pop-ups .. the system counts a hit on a page, the throws up a self-closing popup and counts it again on that.

From the looks of things, about 24% of surfers are not seeing popups - either because they have a blocker (like the Google bar) or hahahahahahahahahaha is turned off or whatever.

This is a lot larger than I expected - and it's gotta have an effect on the profitability of programs that pay big bucks on signups to first site only, as they make their cash off the exit traffic ..

Of course, different sources of traffic will reflect different blocking figures .. anyone have any other stats in this area?

showModalDialog('http://www.google.com','pop12','status:no; help:no; dialogwidth:500px; dialogheight:500px; center:yes; edge:raised; scroll:no;');

try that.

Interestin' - but still little more than a chromed layer, really, that only works in IE .. it's dependant on the window that launches it. Sure, IE's most of the market but still ..

The only reason I don't have the Google pop-up blocker on all the time is so that I can test our own pop-ups and so on.

Fear not .. RSP Labs continues to research new annoying in-your-face ad technology!

I give it 6 months before the majority of surfers have popup blockers as standard.
