Anobody shooting with the Panasonic AG DVX100?
ccan you post some feedbacks please? is the lack of autofocus in 24p a real pain or is it manageable as it prolly take time to get used to? holla back..
|
my friend had one for a couple days. the lack of autozoom is a huge hassle and it renders very blurry pictures. it has a couple other audio sync issues. i'd recommend the vx2000 100x times over this camera.

really? i already have a couple of vx2000, but i just saw a a couple of DVDs from the TTBoy line shot with that cam and shit just looks wicked. that one series he shot down in Rio de Janeiro with the panasonic is simply amazing.. vivid colors, extra crisp skin tones, and image detail is just incredible. but then again he shoots primarily for VHS and DVD. that's why i wanted to know more about content producers using it to shoot web shit.. in any case, thanx for the feedback... anybody else? |
damn i was dreaming about it before i read that it doesn't have autofocus in a progressive mode - it looks like it is better to wait the next model with full progressive scan... :(
|
the lux goes WAY up in progressive as well

I've been using the 24P for about 3 months now. I love it! And for professional quality you don't use AutoFocus anyway. But if you need it, the DVX-100a comes with it.
The 24P picture blows away the XL-1. The main problem that I have with the camera is the time-code issues. If you pop off the battery with it in standby mode the time code goes haywire. Not a big problem when editing porn, but problems with mainstream stuff. |

I was going to buy a DVX yesterday but I played with a Sony PD170 today and now I'm not so sure. The picture on that is pretty wicked as well. Decisions, decisions... |
Panasonic is releasing camera in 2 mos. 1920x1400 or similar, 24p, true HD. $6000. My content manager who know his shit up and down says wait.

Yes but you will end up spending thousands of dollars in hard drives because it does not record DVCPRO HD to tape. I am gonna shoot on my DVX until the Panny releases the "fixed version" of their new HD camera. By then maybee their P2 storage will be cheaper. |
I'm largely in agreement. I use VX2000. Used to use GL. Sony is better on low light. Never misses. VX2100 is not much better for the extra $500. 75% of my director friends in the valley including Jules Jordan use VX2000.
Will take a lot to get me away from it. |
$6000 is a little more than I want to spend on a cam.

An 8 gig card will hold about 8 minutes worth of HD so you will need two. One to shoot with and one to download while the other's in use. |
never never buy first gen of a product your asking to be fucked
|
woah, grinder....what has been up dude?
|
is this cam good in low light.
anyone have links to sample still capures? |
Yes the camera works great in low light if you know how to set it.

I love my Panasonic, i have shot with the Canon XL1, and the sonys and im hooked on the Panasonic. It is by far the best camera i have used so far. And not that they are coming out with the HD version i cant wait to get my hands on it. Even though the price is $6k it will be worht it not to have to dela with tape decks anymore. Plus you can hookup a ADS stoage unit to it and record directly onto the HD.

Personally I never use auto on any video camera ... Nor do I run the auto Iris .. I don't know if anyone remembers my post on the JVC 10 U ... I felt that camera sucked .. Mostly because of all the Auto features on it ... Hence the JVC 10 U might be the camera for you .. Sony came out with a HD all auto version of the 10 U .. you should check it out |
All these great things being said about the vx2000 wanted to give heads up im selling one in the buy and sell section of gfy lol

Do the same thing as Jace and I'll have a copy expedited to you. http://www.awtmagazine.com/webmasters/ I'll also be calling you this week. We are in pre-production of an independent feature film. Based on our short features we've already secured DVD distribution so we'll be in all major video stores (Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Netfilx, etc.), plus we are negotiating with some minor A-list and high B-list stars for some roles. It should be fun. |
