it's a netbios error. when your system starts, it broadcasts and attempts to use the name you have given it. it's finding another machine on the network with the same name that's defending itself, and is going to cause some network issues.


change the netbios machine name and the error should go away.

i cant even browse the network though - i lack permission in everything for some reason

yeah, you can't get on the netbios network because your machine is trying to be a big bully and take someone else's name.


if you're running xp pro, right click my computer, and go to the computer name tab. then click the change button, and change the computer name to something unique. that should solve your problem.
