Impatiently waiting for the 5th installment. Supposed to be this fall.

Nightmares and Dreamscapes -- cool title :)

Jamdin 09-08-2003 09:58 PM

'Salem's Lot is my favorite

Zebra 09-08-2003 10:01 PM

The Preacher character from Salem's Lot (played by David Soul in the movie) is a major character in the 5th Gunslinger book coming this fall. Don't ask me how he got there. Must be one of them pesky doorways. :winkwink:

dig420 09-08-2003 10:05 PM

Roadwork is a little slow, If you haven't read much SK I would recommend getting right into the really sweet ones, like Salem's Lot or The Shining

Desperation and The Regulators is a great set as well..

quiet 09-08-2003 10:18 PM

the shawshank redemption and the body (stand by me) are my favorite king novels (really novellas i suppose).

i also love all of his short stories collections - really entertaining stuff.

hope springs eternal :)

I just finished The Stand this weekend too. It's about the 15th time I've read it. I was recommending it to my fiance and before he could get started, I started it myself. :)

What did you like about the story? There are lots of good ones. My favorite is The Talisman. I got started on "Night Shift" back in junior high school and have almost read all of them.

I didn't read the Gunslinger series. I tried to read the first one a few times. Ended up getting it on tape and listening to it while driving to Vegas. I haven't started the 2nd one yet, but I have had 1-3 of the series since they were released.

Insomnia is pretty good. So is Nightmares and Dreamscapes which is a collection of short stories. You might like Dean Koontz's books as well.

TurboTrucker 09-09-2003 12:16 AM

Read these for sure

The Talisman
The Tommyknockers
It

Pornwolf 09-09-2003 12:20 AM

jas1552 09-09-2003 12:23 AM

Speaking of Stephen King short stories. Has anyone seen Apt Pupil? Was it as good as the short story? I remember seeing a commercial for it when it came out a few years ago and wanting to see it.

Ah well that sucks. The story certainly did kick ass though.

PersianKitty 09-09-2003 12:42 AM

They are actually doing a remake of Salem's Lot as a tv movie for next year.

Rob Lowe takes on the role David Soul played.

I've got tons of King books.. read most of what he's written. Even have some signed first editions an limited editions.

If you want to keep up with what's heading for movies, you might read Desperation.

Skeleton Crew is a collection of short stories published in the mid-80s which includes one of my favorites, The Mist.

I've also enjoyed reading his collaborations with Peter Straub. The Talisman and The Black House are both very good. The Talisman made me read more of Straub's books.

You guys are all very sick people...

Books??

Sickening

... 09-09-2003 01:29 AM

I'm reading the Stand right now as well.

I'm not that far into it however I am really enjoying it.
I am at part where Nick (mute and deaf) is introduced.

Just like 'QueenBitch', I am also anticipating Dark Tower 5. After the Stand, I plan on re-reading 1-4 of Dark Tower to prep myself.

jas1552 09-09-2003 01:39 AM

My memory must be failing me. I only remember reading one collection of Stephen King's short stories. I thought it was Nightmares and Dreamscapes, but after looking up the contents of that along with Skeleton Crew and Nightshift, I only recognize one of the stories from Nightmares and Dreamscapes(night flier), one from Nightshift(sometimes they come back), and all of Skeleton Crew. Damn I guess marijuana's not so good for ones memory.

jollyperv 09-09-2003 01:41 AM

I don't read much fiction, more of a nonfiction space and science kind of reader, but the gunslinger was fucking cool. I don't really like King that much, but that book ruled. Post apocalyptic settings are such an amazing backdrop.

"Stand by Me" Came from a short story in that book (skeleton crew) , right?

I love that movie.

Yeah, like quiet said earlier "The Body"

Pornwolf 09-09-2003 01:45 AM

Oh shit, I forgot... I read The Stand. That was many moons ago, waaay back in time. This was back before I saw the light of broadband internet connectivity which brought more words to the screen than I could ever read in a century!

Now I only read things relevant to my interest and business that gets updated daily so I stay on top of the neverending world and social chain of events! Sure, it was easy to stop and break away when you had to wait for pages to load but now I can't stop! I don't even read magazines anymore unless they are online (or I'm on the toilet). I can't stop devouring the net! Help me!

no, it came from a novella called 'the body' (i mentioned it above) from the book "four seasons"

jollyperv 09-09-2003 01:47 AM

Ahh. Anybody ever sit through "The Stand" TV series? That was garbage...me and my GF made the mistake of renting it one night, it took us 3 days to watch it....I should've bitched and got my money back.

kelly 09-09-2003 01:59 AM

The last King book I read was a month or so ago - From A Buick 8, bought it on the Saturday afternoon and stayed up all night reading it, couldn't put it down.

Dean Koontz is still my favourite though!

Ahh yeah that's what it was. I read "Different Seasons"(a reprint of Four Seasons maybe?), "Skeleton Crew" and at least one story from "Nightmares and Dreamscapes".

Ahhh hell anyway Stephen King rules.

Dean Koontz is definately one of my favorites as well. I've read all of his books except for the last two. "The Face" and "By The Light Of The Moon" I've got to get those.

DatingGold 09-09-2003 02:45 AM

Swan Song by Robert McCammon is the shit, check it out trust me.

CaroMark 09-09-2003 06:57 AM

:2 cents: After "The Stand" my second all time favorite would be "The Shinning" there is just so much transpiring in the story that none of the movies could capture.

Also one of his short story collections includes a tale of the Salems Lot vampire that can make you cringe.

Finally the story of the folding machine, "The Mangler" I think, will let you know just how powerful that virgin sacrifice really is!:thumbsup :winkwink:

Phoenix 09-09-2003 07:01 AM

Steven King rocks...wicked Story teller..i have read many of his books.

If you liked the Stand....maybe you will aslo like the Talisman...fantasy type book...but a good journey
