Dubai - anyone live there or traveled there?
 

i've been checking out some new villas in an area called 'palm island'. anyone been there before?

I think there will be a grand prix in Dubai in the next few years. Bahrain is next up...and only a very short hop from UAE.

If Bahrain is successful who knows?

i hear its nice but seems Bush is dedicated to fuck up the whole middle east. i would be afraid to go.

I think quiet is Canadian, no worries there. I'm sure he's got a sack full of maple leaf clothing and hats to travel with, lol.

yeah, that definitely has me concerned, though apparently it's supposed to be quite stable.

there was a story in the newspaper here in the uk about it, a lot of the top footballers in this country are buying places out there. if it's the place i'm thinking of the island is in the shape of a pal tree. it's going to be very exlusive apparently, although if it attracts the rich and famous westerners i would think it would be a prime target for terrorists.

that's the place. i think i heard beckam bought a place there...

dubai is definately a nice place. never been there.. but i hear its set for a financial explosion soon. (in a good way)

How much are those apts?

i talked to someone from sales earlier today:

2 bedroom apartments start at 250K USD. 3 bedroom and penthouses are significantly more. garden home villas (5000 sq feet) start at 783K (include private pool and beach area). larger villas (7000 sq feet) start at 1.4 M.

Iran also used to be a beautiful and rich country before their war with Iraq, which was continously fueled by the US on the both sides.

actually i don't think so. regardless, the prices are very good for new, large villas ocean front with a large section of private beach + pool.

Dubai is not the worst, but the whole region is very unstable.

Closest I came was Dhahran KSA, not the same vibe at all LOL...

Had a few buds do a lil partying in Bahrain and the UAE, and supposedly had a blast...


I'm sure the beaches in Dubai are nice ;-)


but if I was really looking to sport a nice beach villa I'd consider checking out some of the sand in Croatia, I hear the flip side of the Adriatic is nice, I spent a little time on the other side...

when I was a travel agent I booked almost as many weekend shopping trips to Dubai from London as I did to New York. If you are rich and British you go there atleast once a year.

I went to Dubai a few times when i was living in Abu Dhabi. It's pretty nice over there. Too hot for my liking, though.

I been to the UAE 3 times, Dubai 2 times back in '92

It?s a very "new" city, you will have 2 or 3 blocks of building and empty lots of sand dunes for a block than more city.

Very High British population and LOTS of $100k cars.

They have alot of "American" places like Mcd's, KFC etc etc.

And they also can have a nasty sand storm.

It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn?t want to live there.
