Question about the hun's ranking on alexa

I'm not trying to slam the hun or anything, and know that I TRULY believe he has REAL and VERY PROFITABLE TRAFFIC.
just trying to undersatnd something that seemed a little odd.

thehun.net is ranked on alexa as # 776
thehun.com is ranked on alexa as #776

how can two urls have the same rank?

when you try the url thehun.com on alexa it gives you the rank for thehun.net - and takes you to the page for thehun.net

That's what I find a little confusing. I thought alexa ranked the traffic for only ONE url?

I hope that's real, as all the other bidders were real.

I'm sure since its the same thing they put them together.

that's my question though - i didn't think alexa DID that?

I think I saw a post from thehun once over here that they combined his 2 domains.

Why not, does microsoft.net and microsoft.com have different entries?

that would explain the spike in his alexa traffic graph

Nah, you wouldn't think they would since, technically, you could own SleazyDream.com and I could own SleazyDream.org or.us and they could have very different rank etc.

Exactly! That's how he explained his spike - they combined his 2 domains.

Ok, here you go:

The Hun:

I wrote Alexa with the 'error' they made by seeing thehun.com and thehun.net as two separate sites. Seems like they went in and fixed that problem... I wonder if I should mail 'em the other gazillion domain names that go to the same site as well...

WiredGuy 09-08-2003 01:25 PM

Scott, check out these two urls:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details?url=thehun.com
http://www.alexa.com/data/details?url=thehun.net

In the first one, you'll see that even though you're doing a lookup on thehun.com, you'll get information on thehun.net. Alexa was able to determine this was in fact the same site so that's why you get the same listing.

Alexa is able to follow redirects most of the time and this time is one of them. Hope that helps...
