US judge: Web users 'must endure' pop-up ads

Internet users will continue to be plagued by unwanted pop-up adverts after a US judge ruled websites can do nothing to prevent companies placing ads on their pages without permission.

"Alas, we computer users must endure pop-up advertising," district judge Gerald Bruce Lee ruled in a US court in Virginia.

While this ruling applies only to America, other US-based web judgments have tended to set a precedent on this side of the Atlantic.

The decision is a blow to the owners of websites that have been plagued by rogue advertising.

Over the past two years online publishers have filed more than a dozen lawsuits against internet advertising firms Gator Corporation and WhenU.com.

One reason more to use Popup killer ( or equivalent) and not to use popup as part of your site ( popup photos, forms, ...).

These judges are clueless when it comes to the internet. This is not about popup ads, but about these scumware companies jacking your site. So is it ok for me to take my shit into someone else's store and start selling it to his customers?

As for popup killers, the new Google toolbar kicks some serious ass :thumbsup

I don't mind pop up ads when I am loading a site. Some are annoying, but as long as it's only for that page or an exit, who cares.

The ones that embed themselves all over my hard drives, pop up 20 windows when I open MSIE, then continue opening them for a half hour after I closed all my browsers, piss me off to no end.

Mainly because, sometimes I actually don't want porn on my screen and they pop up out of nowhere, when I am showing something to my mom. Then when I think I have removed it.... WRONG. I feel bad for novice PC users.

Kazaa is one of the worst.
