Warren Zevon Dies

Being a huge REM fan it is particuarly sad for me as he did a heck of a lot of work with them but he did alot more than just that.

56, lung cancer.

:(

jollyperv 09-08-2003 04:27 AM

Ooof, man, I hate REM but that does suck...I gotta quit smoking.

Furious_Female 09-08-2003 04:37 AM

Sad.... I just burned a CD for my mom the other day, with some of his songs... Weird hearing that, after you were just thinking about that person recently, and then they die! Especially when you've never thought about them before..

I freak myself out sometimes :uhoh

Ketadream 09-08-2003 04:44 AM

At least there will be warewolves in heaven...

:(

Very sad news...

well he did a lot more than just write for REM....and yes, do...watched my grandfather die of lung cancer..not nice.

RedShoe 09-08-2003 05:54 AM

Damn! Better him than me I guess. I mean if you is gonna smoke, you know the risks.

Still sad though, I remember seeing something about him on Yahoo a couple of weeks back.

DeadFidel 09-08-2003 05:58 AM

He knew he was going to die. He had 6-8 weeks and decided to create a documentary and sound track. Heard some of it this morning, GOOD/sad material. Seemed to be a good guy.
RIP.

Jamdin 09-08-2003 06:12 AM

Goodnight, Mister Zevon :(

Wanted dead or alive by Warren Zevon

I am wanted dead or alive
I'm wanted everywhere
I've got to survive
They say I am a violent man
Only trying to do the best I can
Dig it?

I am wanted dead or alive
Fifteen states I've got to survive
I am wanted dead or alive
I'm a new kind of man
I've got to survive

Running a long way

I am wanted dead or alive
I'm wanted everywhere
I've got to survive
Now all I'm trying to do
Is find a peaceful place
But they say I have an outlaw face
My lord, I have an outlaw's face
I have an outlaw's face
They say I have an outlaw's face
My, my, yes I have an outlaw's face
I have an outlaw's face
I have an outlaw's face
Oh my lord, I have an outlaw's face
Sweet God almighty, I have an outlaw's face

that was based on a true story for the record (no pun intended)

I thought he had already died, but I guess I had just heard that he was on his way out.

ElvisManson 09-08-2003 09:53 AM

I guess he is sleeping now. :glugglug

I saw him on the Letterman show a few months back. Letterman is obviously a big fan of Zevon and had him on for practically the whole hour. And just last week he was promoting his new album.

I was struck by how upbeat Zevon was on his last appearance on Letterman. Joked about the title of the album he had just put out and how he was really afraid of going to doctors and kept asking his dentist for medical advice.

Damn good music he put out. He will be missed.

NetRodent 09-08-2003 11:57 AM

I called up my friend LeRoy on the phone
I said, Buddy, I'm afraid to be alone
I got some weird ideas in my head
About things to do in Denver when you're dead

I was working on a steak the other day
I saw Waddy in the Rattlesnake Cafe
Dressed in black, tossing back a shot of rye
Finding things to do in Denver when you die

You won't need a cab to find a priest
Maybe you should find a place to stay
Some place where they never change the sheets
And you just roll around Denver all day

LeRoy says there's something you should know
Not everybody has a place to go
And home is just a place to hang your head
And dream up things to do in Denver when you're dead

You won't need a cap to find a priest
Maybe you should find a place to stay
Some place where they never change the sheets
And you jut roll around Denver all day
You just roll around Denver all day

I saw him play her in Toronto ...Jeus...must be a least 10 years ago...him and two other guys....just piano, bass and drums ...and all three of them would switch insruments at any given time.....one of the best shows I have ever seen. :thumbsup

TheGoldenChild 09-08-2003 12:18 PM

Now he can sleep when he is dead....

I am so sad about this- both D$ and I had worked with Warren Zevon in the concert promotion biz.

My memeories of him will live on forever-

I recall him getting me hooked on Silk Cut cigarrettes- he smoked them like a chimney and they were great until Gallagher stopped importing them to the USA-

I am happy to say I am quitting smoking soon due to this death and many others I have seen from smoking- I now know it's time.

My favorite quote from Mr. Zevon that really still makes me chuckle is when D$ asked him " when are you going to play werewolves in London?"

His answer was- Probably when I get on stage.....as dead pan as you can get-
My bro and I still chuckle about how funny that sounded.

I will miss his work tremendously- especially with the Hindu Love Gods- one of my favorite albums of all time

His version of Princes raspberry beret is the best

RIP Warren- you will be missed.

He was a music legend and will be missed.

KB, I was thinking about that when I read this thread topic.

He was so cool and chilled out. Looked a lot like Harrison Ford with a pony tail in person. Ever since he gave me that answer to my question, I never asked another dumb question to an artist again.
