Human cainines are wimpy. Hardly the fangs of a serious predator. I think we're omnivores, but I am not sure the tooth arguments are convincing.

Of course we're omnivores.

And the tooth arguments are very convincing. You don't see many cows, deer or antelope with any form of canines.

Many species have vestigal traits. Who is to say that our shrunken cainines aren't vestigal, left over from when we were predators? After all, we still have an appendix for digesting raw meat, but it doesn't work anymore.

There is more research nowadays showing that the appendix is not useless and its needed for early development stuff.

Your canines are short and lame because for thousands of years now, humans have not had to kill animals with their mouths, or rip flesh and muscle off the bone with their mouths. People with small canines were at no survival disadvantage to people with large canines so they could breed just as easily.

Humans did not go from predatory omnivores to pure herbivores.

That sounds better. Many vegetarians don't do it for the possible effect on health or the way animals are treated, but they just don't like the taste of meat.
