Not denying that there are problems...but I find it funny that everyone here talks about how he doesn't care about the Hollywood Machine...Depp will say what he wants...he's the man etc.

Just proves that when people have millions of dollars invested in your ass when it comes to promoting their movies etc, best be ready kiss ass. :)

Back pedaled? He never even pedaled forward. The german news source exaggerated and distorted his comments. Quote from Depp HIMSELF:

"Taken in context, what I was saying was that, compared to Europe, America is a very young country and we are still growing as a nation. It is a shame that the metaphor I used was taken so radically out of context and slung about irresponsibly by the news media," Depp said

Both stories are could easily be true, it's hard to say for sure without hearing the interview.

Stern stands by their article. Come on...famous people pull this bullshit all the time.

They stick their necks out say something controversial and then next thing you know it hits them, the companies that back them in the pocket book...so they start to back pedal.

I love Depp...I think he's one of the greatest actors of his generation....but he didn't get owned...he IS OWNED by Hollywood :thumbsup

I just think it's funny that so many people were saluting Depp for taking a stand the other day, and now he's denying the comments that they were applauding him for.

Media organizations have more to gain by adding their own attention-grabbing interpretation of the interview to the headlines.

Even if that's all he meant (which it isn't) that's a pretty stupid thing to say anyway. As if the age of a nation has anything to do with the intelligence or knowledge of the people living there.

Btw if that was the point he was trying to get across "dumb" wouldn't have been necessary. Puppy alone would have sufficed.

Where did he say anything about knowledge or intelligence?

He compared the US to a "dumb puppy". Dumb usually means lack of intelligence. Perhaps he didn't mean to say dumb. Maybe he just meant to compare the US with a puppy. I would assume that analogy would mean immature, naive, ignorant(unknowledgeable). Replace knowledge or intelligence in my post with maturity. It's still a dumb statement.
